Nashio and PM, read my post more properly!
Jeepman, I forgot about the Skeeter, however they were designed and initiated by Cierva, hey none of their aircraft exist!
Did Cierva actually manufacture aircraft themselves?? There are several Cierva designs extant built by other aicraft firms (Avro, DH). But Paul’s original question was regarding major aircraft manufacturers.
Of those the most poorly represented must be Armstrong Whitworth with none of it’s original designs surviving except for the 1959 Argosy.

Bryan,
Have now got Tom Smith’s e-mail to hand – will PM it to you.
Roger Smith.
Aw…I only need a couple of minutes! 😮

Hope this doesn’t mean that if ‘JRB appears on the front cover of FlyPast it’ll have to go on the top shelf in the newsagents 😀

Eeee, when I wer’ a lad I complained about stickies. We ‘ad half a dozen, nay, more ‘un half a dozen in them days and I complained. We ‘ad to put up wi’ it then though.
Tell that to t’ youngsters of today an’ they won’t belive ya.

You buying? :D:D:D
Oh, but I’d have to drive home afterwards 😡
Much as I would like to be at Sywell Bidford is much nearer and the photographic opportunities greater.
Roger Smith.
If anyone’s got a spare half million pounds or so around. We can find the drawings and would be happy to oblige!! :diablo:
Wonder how much original data Peter Jackson had to hand for his replica RE8?
I, too, would dearly love to see one flying.

I don’t think any of the Parkside engines carried the name “Whitworth” all being either Siddeley ____ (as in Siddeley Puma) or Armstrong Siddeley ____(as in Armstrong Siddeley Cheetah) and, later, Bristol Siddeley before becoming Rolls Royce. So the engine in question is an Armstrong Siddeley Lynx.
Best contact would be the Rolls Royce Heritage Trust, Coventry Branch. The Secretary is Tom Smith – I don’t have an e-mail address to hand but will post one (if no one else does it first).
Roger Smith.
Can anyone say what time is planned for initial departure from Sywell?
Roger Smith.
Gosh – thought someone had found a Fairey bomber
Roger Smith.
I’ll try and get to Bidford (my nearest) – it’ll be a bit crowded if they all land there together 🙂
I wonder if, en route Bidford to Cosford, they will fly over Nuneaton? Sir Geoffrey grew up there – was he born there or elsewhere?
Roger Smith.
my mistake

This is a very moving thread. You are lucky to have known him Becka. RIP Mr Bance.
A second cousin, Albert Baldwin (bomb aimer), flew all his ops with 467 but his aircraft was shot down on their 13th mission (to Russelsheim) on 12th/13th August, 1944 Albert and four others of the crew were KIA.
I hadn’t realised the cockpit section of DV372 at South Lambeth was ex-467 Sqdn – Albert and compatriots flew DV373 on three missions. Like Doug, I would be interested to hear more of the book.

….For info, we found a lovely place called Brook Meadow, outside the village of Sibbertoft, just a few miles away….
….. and someone nearby has a helicopter, which for some reason was up twice during the night, so it’s entertaining sitting outside the tent on an evening…
suspected so, but just checked on a map first. Sibertoft is quite close to Husbands Bosworth which, as well as being the home of the Coventry Gliding Club, is the base for an Air Ambulance – that’s likely to have been the helicopter you saw.

What a fabulous collection of photos – thanks for posting. ’tis testing my recognition skills(?) a bit
Roger Smith,
just a thought – from a type where the parachute is not sat on???? ie a larger aircraft like a Lancaster??
