A popular name for the VH-71A is still under consideration.
How about “Big Bird”, covers many reasons, it carries the president- Big bird of politics, It’s size- Bigger than the Seaking it’s replacing and Big Bird keeping it in line with America after all American TV wouldn’t be the same without Sesame Street.
I didn’t know that the bushwacker 25mm was used in the CIWS role?
Nor did I mate, it was news to me!
Is this a new application for the 25mm cannon…….what systems is it tied too?
A new application yes, as for the system it’s to be tied to, I don’t know, they are being very secretive about the whole deal.
Seems like it would be alittle slow in that role????
That too is what I would have thought, but I hear they are also increasing the speed as well as using a new type of ammo for it. Again details are sketchy at best.
yeah I remember the Emb-145 being offered and the same argument took place about it’s range. The 190/195 makes sence being the same size roughly as the 737.
Doesn’t EADS have anything planned? perhaps something based on the ABJ or the A310? Surely Russia has something as well.
Lusty has just come back to service after a refit, so I would say that it was Lusty. If she was heading North I guess she’d be heading to the work up area for her post refit trials which are conducted off the scottish coast IIRC.
Chris: Mate you’re not really going off topic but that’s cool! Yeah mate there is a big problem down here getting people to join up in any of the services, especially when faced with service in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Bouganville or Solomon Islands! A friend of mine got a message that a guy he went to school with and his brother were off to Afghanistan, how sad, Brothers going into battle.
Anyway, yeah Canberra is to be paid off this year and next year Adelaide. The money being saved by retiring these two will be turned around and put back into the the other four (HMAS’s Sydney, Darwin, Melbourne and Newcastle) with their upgrades, ESSM’s in Mk-41 VLS just forward of the Mk-13 rail launcher.
There is also talk now that the RAN is going to replace the Phlanax CIWS system with the new giro stabalised 25mm bushwhacker gun now being used on the new patrol boats.
Well done Wan, didn’t think you’d actually do it mate, hahahahaha, good to see we can all have a laugh!
My list, not much but I like it.
1. Anything from SAAB (they only go from best to better).
2. Hawk Mk 100/ Mk 200 (having these in your service would make a good force)
3. Naval Tejas
4. Su-34
5. YF-23
6. Kfir
7. F-111
8. F-CK-1 Ching Kuo
9. A-1 AMX (The Brazilian model not the Italian one- I like the idea of having two 30 mm Defa’s rather than a 20 Vulcan)
10. SuE
I love the Hawk as well but one that interests me is the IAR-99 Soim.

they don’t really publish much mate, but I would like to see a pic of their OPV proposal for England to patrol the Falklands, it’s supposed to be a follow on design from thier patrol boats currently entering service with the RN.
Happy to have helped my dear friend
How many crew does the ship accommodate?
21 mate, thought the navy is considering a new plan to have two rotational crews on them, meaning that each ship will have 42 people serving on them. IMHO I don’t think this will happen mainly because the navy is having problems recruiting people, as is the whole ADF. Many young people are realising that there is more money to be made in the private sector.
OK Wan, I want a pic of you with no hair, snigger snigger.
Here’s the final ship
It is HMNZS Endeavour, new Zealands refueler and the most travelled ship in the NZDF
Well take Taiwan’s IDF as an example, Sure the F-CK-1 Ching Kuo is a nice palne and has finally entered service, but they took a long time to develope it and they too droped the eventual numbers to be ordered down due to buying both the M2K and F-16’s.
India is looking at buying American fighters as well now so there is a very similar case to be drawn on.
I really do hope that the Tejas does go ahead because India has spent too much time and money on it! I feel that they could have an export market for it and besides I really want to see the Naval version.
Here’s a pic that shows the comparative size between HMAS Armidale and NUSHIP Armidale
Sorry Can, it’s not
