Except its not designed for the fighter/interceptor role especially not at high altitude. Sort of alot a money to spend on something that cant do the role its intended.

Well from what I hear they don’t need an interceptor for high altitude work, Drug runners always fly at low levels in order to throw of governement radar. Besides the AMX/T is a LIFT and thus can do the job of both the F-5 and the old T-33’s and also they could still buy their Super Tucano’s

Personally I think the FAM would do well with a squadron or two of AMX/T’s. These are cheap enough and non European/American and they won’t ring any alarm bells in America since these are not Chinese or Russian.

Failing that, India could have it’s first customer for their Tejas, these too would be rather cheap.

On an extreme measure, SAAB has long been known to do very favourable deals in offsets for purchasing their Gripen.

In any case I don’t think the FAM want more “hand-me-downs” from the US or any other country. They have started dealing in the home built market and perhaps the Javelin might be a solution, but there again the US will want to control their actions, this is why Mexico has started buying non US equipment.

What concerns me Steve is the fact that with all this technical advancement, you are going to loose out of some very handy combat manouvering e.g. During the Falklands conflict, many harriers were abble to throw the nozzel position selector down and basically zap up and over an enemy on their tail, all while still looking forward.

This new stuff and the new F-35’s won’t be able to do this, IMHO, because their systems won’t allow it either through computer programing errors or due to structural designs.

One must ask oneself if these new systems are worth loosing some combat edge over any potential enemy!

The six Z-9’s doesn this mean that they will base one on each ship with one in the hanger for maintainence and another for training?

LPD’s and LPX’s are used for different missions, I know about the TNI-AN’s purchase, their so called “Hospital ship”, be interesting to see what becomes of it.

but if a helicopter or LRMP is prowling above, the surfaced sub which can barely make 20 knots is a sitting duck for a rocket or missile attack with no chance of survival. this surfacing might work in a 1-1 Akula2:688I Tom clancy deathmatch somewhere near antarctica but not against a fully alert SAG with organic helos it wont.

Well I was talking about a sub on sub encounter mate, as was asked about! what you talk about is also very plausable, but rearely will a nation in peaceful times send out a task group looking for a sub. But if there is a determined nation out to taker care of a particular threat then yes a subs best chance it deep and quiet- five kts at the most.

As for VDS, it is usually deployed from the stren of the ship on a very long and thick cable, if you do a quick search on google you might come up with some pics.

From my sub experience a good Skipper will hug a thermal like a child hugs a blankie. If he launches an attack, he’ll program the torp to snake above and below the layers like a dolphine on the surface, that way he is assured that the fish will be assured of finding a target both above and below.

A Skipper under attack with ride a layer in order to help confuse the incoming, he would porpoise the layers and drop a few countermeasures on either side of the layer to help throw it off. then he’d either go deep and silent (the Russian way) or blow and surface running at all speed (the American way). IMHO a good Skipper will think about what happens after the worst case, at least on the surface some of the crew can survive, down deep if you’re hit no one will survive.

Feanor: you might have a good point there mate. But the Type 209’s usually carry mostly torps. As for having sent so many to Davy Jones’ locker, we these days we apply sanctions before sending in the troops, it will be a long time before anyone goes down due to torpedo attacks.

If you are talking about WWII designs, I love the S class of the British, But no one can deny that the Japanese were masters of the globe with their giant boats hopping from Japan to Germany just as easy as a battle ship going from England to Singapore!

Has SK offered this ship on the market? I could think of a few countries who would buy them
