It is not correct to say that the Type 209 cannot fire any missiles. The Turkish Type 209/1400 are armed with Harpoon missiles and can fire them.
Yeah and there was also talk of arming them with a small manpad system as well.
Anyone have any thoughts on the new Army scout helo program? Any preference for which one wins?
Any links to the comp and who’s been asked to enter?
Sounds more to me like the US wants to keep business in their own country! Boeing haven’t been doing well lately especially since the scandle over the KC-767.
Jungle Boy: sounds like you are a fiercly patriotic American, the Embraer products fill a nieche that no US manufacture can, from the Raython line to the boeing line there is a slight gap in capabilities, this is where Embraer will thrive. The Boeing 737 airframe can only go so far but for some applications is a little too big, this was proved with the British ASTOR program.
Think of how the families feel, especially those that lost children. Even worse, think of how the Pilots felt after they heard that they had killed children, I wouldn’t be suprised if a deep set depression set in and possibly suicide followed. They’d never be able to work again, and the worst part is, they were just following orders, give the commanders the 14 years but leave the pilots alone!
I was going to sugest the EMB-190, it’s a very nice plane and has heaps of room to grow
Is it just me, or can anyone else see a resemblence to a Macross Design?
So I wasn’t crazy when I was under the impression that these could actually take on and possibly beat the American systems!
I know about the Denel site as I am a regular visitor there, but thanks for the Kentron link.
Yes the A-Darter is being developed as an alternative to the ASRRAM. Very very impressive, we looked at it when we were replacing our AIM-9’s. Sadly the ASRAAM was selected, but the A-Darter was very very close.
Interesting, at the top of the Kentron page, there is a a UCAV firing an A-Darter, I wasn’t aware that the SAAF were looking at them, interesting design too!
I heard that there were five E-2C’s with an option on two more not sure about tankers though I think it was six
Thanks guys for keeping this one alive, I still haven’t seen the Brazilian systems in use but with the Internet expanding every day I guess it’s only a mater of time before something pops up!
the UAEAF and DF have opted for the latest version of the E-2C (Hawkeye 2000 I think it is called). They are proceeding very quickly leeding people to believe that these are coming out of USN current stock (not new builds or out of AMRAC).
As for the Tanker, I haven’t heard anything yet.
Here are a few from my board, we’ve been doing it over there as well!
These are from me- do you notice a theme?
Herring (as in Dead)
Dodo
Brontosaurus (following along the current trend of Dinosaurs- e.g. Raptor).
From Greyhavoc
The Buffalo (after the infamous WWII USN fighter!).
From Goose
‘Twin Shooter’ in referrence to the two bombs it’s gonna carry.
I wonder how many of the 350 members are Indian since there CiC is Indian?
Very Very interesting mate thanks for this, tell me mate Vigilant (?) in the first pic and the third pic seems to have some sort of stealth covering on it, do you have a better pic of it?
Scoot: seriously mate, are you really older than me? Couldn’t be by much I’d say.
Wan: Mate my insanity is heriditry, I got it from my kids 😉
hahahahahaha
