None yet but Canberra and Adelaide are free, well will be by the time these ships enter service.
Ja- What do you think of the beamier ships like the American and Japanese Aegis Destroyers? The USN seems to be going to ship with shorter hulls. Yet, with wider beams. Which, has more room for stores and has better sea keeping.
I wouldn’t touch the American DDG-51’s but the Japaneese ships are very much improved and thus very much better, you have to remember, the wider the beam, the better the sea handeling, this is something we haven’t seen since the days of the big capital ships of WWII. Sure there is extra room for stores, but it’s more importantly about sea keeping.

The pilot was getting rather frustrated and tried again, “Caller on this frequency this is Fokker Friendship 27”.
The Italian called back saying, “Fokker you Friendships mate we needa da helpa”.
Ja WorsleyAnnounced today were new measure to make the airports in Australia more secure, these include the following measures which will affect all 70,000 people who work at all the airports around Australia in every capacity:
1. All members of Airport Staff will no undergo a full background check by Australian Federal Police for any previous offence. Those will any will be prioritised in a catagory class. Anyone in the High Priority will loose their job with no recourse at all, and they will have a permanent mark against their name, these include people who have offended and still continue to do so. Medium Priority people are those who have not long completed sentances or who are serving part-time gaol sentances for any crime, they will be monitored as to their activities and judged on a case by case scenario, those who are trying to do the right thing will be allowed to keep their jobs but will not be permitted into sencative areas. Those with a Low Priority will be allowed into most areas without supervision. Everyone working at the airports will also have to undergo a full security check before being given a clearence, this will include advancement in grades. Anyone found to be committing an offence in the future may have their privlidges reduced or even taken away, though there are cases where the person may be gaoled. The Government wish to clearly state that there is no “Zero Tollerance” Pollicy in place, though it is possible that one maybe implimented later on.
2. All areas that are security sencative will now be fully guarded or monitored. All Airports are to receive a full security upgrade, which will include electronic devices on par to those used in military establishments. The cost of all this is to be passed on to the travelers who the government think “won’t mind paying an extra buck for the security and their safe being”(Nice to know that they are thinking of us, I hope that they will drop some of the excessive taxes that come with flying out of Sydney where an International ticket could cost you up to $300 extra in taxes and charges. Or perhaps dropping the now useless Anset levy since that issue is now a mute point- Domestic flights are also slugged with excessive charges that can see anything up to $180 charges on top of any ticket purchace. All these charges make Sydeny the most expencive airport in Australia to fly from, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast are not far behind).
3. A new “Head of Security” position is to be created for all Major airports. The Officer in this position will be tasked with all security matters including who to hire and who to fire. All contract security will report to this person and if a security company is found to be lacking in any area of their duties, the Officer has the right to dismiss the employees of that company and terminate it’s contract on the spot. All security in on and around the airports are to report directly to the Officer and the Officer reports to both the Australian Federal Police and the National Government.
4. All contract security companies are to have their people reviewed under these new laws, the same implications and assesment rules will apply to them as outlined in 1. though if it is found that a company knows about the criminal history of it’s employees but still send them they will be terminated forthwith. Also if a company has to many employees in the High Priority catagory they are still to be terminated as the said company would be deemed a laiability risk (I imagine that a few companies will spend tonight reviewing their staff).
5. Anyone with a previous connection to any cartel or terrorist orginisation will be immediately relieved of duties and taken into custody by the Australian Federal Police, these include foregin nationals, who maybe repatriated or detained in facilities here, in anycase they are all to be processed by the laws of Australia.
All these new rules and laws are to come into effect immediately.

And what’s this about forty two fighter planes? Who do they think they are kidding? The most I ever saw on this or any other of the typw was 12 and that included two of them being trainers, forty two, pahh silly chinese don’t know what they are talking about! she could only hold 24 aircraft all up, and that included the helo compliment.
Ja WorsleySee what I mean people, Mexico has a really proud navy and most of the good stuff has been built on their own shores! The Old Gearings and the old DD are due for replacement and the AdM is looking around for something (they are currently talking with B+V about a MEKO design though I don’t know how they will go because they want to built it in their docks and not have B+V built it for them).
IIRC AdM was also the first Navy to employ the NOTAR Helos in service anywhere in the world. Shows that they are thinking ahead!

Ja WorsleyMate, it’s been pushed back so many times one is forced to wonder if the big wigs even know what they are really looking for! The original design spec was tasked with shore bombardment as a tertiary role, the original roles were something like this:
1. Anti Air
2. Anti surface/Anti Sub
3. Shore bombardment/Amphibious support
4. Patrol/Escort
5. Stand alone task group manager.
The original Aussie design had two 5′ deck guns just under the bridge one either side, I’ve been looking for the pic of the design for a while now because it had a lot of quallities about it that would have made it a rather plausable design considering. The only thing was that it was fully Australian, including the design, but the weapons were from over seas. Then came the change of government and they threw out the design because John Howard wanted closer ties to the US! At one point it was rhoumered that we were going to get 5 DDG-51’s but the navy backed up and said that if they did that they could crew the ships themselves. The navy doesn’t want those ships and have made it quite clear, sadly it’s the government who do want them, that’s why they are still in the running!
As for when a design is supposed to be settled upon is anyones guess, though they do want it settled by the years end. The navy has admitted that it can’t drag out much longer because they are creating a huge capability gap and if we are not carefull we’ll loose the experience and we’ll never be able to get the capability back. The only bright point in the form of two areas, they have decided that the ships are to be fitted with the Aegis system and that they are to be coupled with the SM-3 Standard Anti Ballistic Missile defence missile. We currently have the SM-2 block 2’s in service on our FFG’s but these can not engage ballistic missiles. This all has to do with Australia signing the pact for “Son of Star Wars” along with Japan thus making us one of three countries involved in this program.

Ja WorsleyScoot: Mate as I said, they haven’t selected a design yet, but the F-100 seems to be the favourite down here and if a deal can be struck where we will get a discount for buying three AWD’s and two LHD’s then these will be the winners, Bazan’s LHD’s are also a favourite in that comp as well!
