DirtyHarry: The Australian Defence Force were going to buy 24 AV-8B Harrier II’s as a multirole force multiplyer, it contained good Air to Air as well as exceptional Air to ground capabilities, mind you the AV-8B program was still very new at that stage and the USMC were just starting to receive it’s first ones.

Yes I know about the P-3 Orion deal pitty that they are B models but the upgrade would fix that, they’d then be along the lines of the Spanish Orions when complete.

Grifo Radar, on an AF-1? Is it compatible? I know the Kahu’s from NZ had the APG-66 and that made them very potent little buggers.

In regards to the Argentine carrier, plans are for them to aquire a new carrier by 2012 and have it built in their own slipways. Yes I know about the current ecconomic cliamte in that country, but this is what has come out in the past couple of months. Incat ship building and design of Tasmania (Australia, noted for it’s highspeed catamarans currently in US military service) has been approached by the Argentine government to supply plans as well as Izar of Spain and one other place (Possibly Fincanterria of Italy) With this information, I think they are serious about it and a possible result of freeing up funds for the carrier could be the short term storage of some planes including the Fightinghawks, if you catch my meaning 😉 In any case, I don’t think you should write off Argentina just yet!

The C-130J is a big mistake

Sorry mate but I have to agree with you on that, we down here got 12 to replace the C-130E’s and they had so many problems to start with that the E’s were kept in service for a full 18months longer just to be on the safe side. It wasn’t untill just recently that we got the software updates instaled that they have now been full autherised for full mission delpoyments and flights.

On this note, are there any C-130A’s preserved anywhere else around the world? I know we have one down here in Australia and that it’s in full flying condition.
