LM: Mate I sent you a PM with email address, our Herks have never combined any form of Grey with Olive green in a camo colouring that I know of so I am really interested in seeing this pic of yours! AFAIK only New Zealand and the RAF use those colours, Ours are either Three tone Green Camo or the new Olive Green as I saw at Richmond, I have poics I just havce to scan them in and will do so tomorrow to show you! Our J’s are all grey which is so boring

OK here’s a challenge for you, try doing one in the Australian Army Aviation Corps Splinter camo as we saw on their fleet of fixed wing aircraft just before their retirement in the mid 90’s! Hahahaha That is really tough!

It’s not a sore spot mate, it’s just that that magazine has really lost it’s quality over the past say decade. Once I used to prefer it over such publications as AFM and Asia Pacific Defence. These days I wouldn’t pay the $8.00 for it’s pages unless there was no more toilet paper left in the world!

As for this boards bashing of Dr Kopp, you really have to wonder why an international board (well several really as this isn’t the only one), are making so many negative comments about the guy. He doesn’t make a lot of sence on many things and when he does, his ramblings previously negater his good work. I will give him credit though for his work on the issue of the “RAN and the LHD v LHT” article. As a former Navy person I saw what he was saying and it really did make sence and I stick to that. Perhaps he shold do as I had done and only stick to what he knows. He’s really good at some navy issues but all his talk in the Air Force stuff has amounted to bull dust!

36SQ NOT to be combined C-17/C-130 unit, as previously reported. All C-130’s to be operated by 37SQ by the end of year, so 36 can prepare for C-17. The C-17’s to be delivered straight to Amberley AB not Richmond. Reasons given as Amberley’s longer runway allowing higher weight ops & Boeing Australia’s main support facility is also there. With 33SQ also moving to Amberley after delivery of Airbus tankers, 37SQ will be sole flying unit at Richmond by end of decade. Comments by Chief of Air Force, AM Shepard.
Not the way i would have done it (Caribous gone, 38SQ to operate C-130H’s) but i suppose it all comes back to operating budgets (a bit rude of AM Shepard not to ask me dont u think?)

Where did they get that info from? All sources in the official lines of communicationstate differently! Oz Aviation is starting to become more of a gossip magazine, one of those tabloids that spreads rumors. I mean any publication that acticvely seeks council from Dr Kopp must really be questioned. The info I got before was direct from the Department of defence website so untill these planes arrive I’ll treat it as official rather than going by what this magazine has to say! Though having one sqdn operating the planes does make sence though then you have the other sqdn operating two different types of the same plane, that doesn’t work becauser the pilots quallified on the Juliettes are not quallified on the Hotels and vice versa. As for the Bous going, yeah right, these are too vital to our current defence, look at their ooperations dureing Cyclone Larry clean up!

No wonder I stopped buying that magazine!

Great days for the RAAF. Fab new capabilities…..737AEW….C-17…..A330 MRTT……..good to see an air force ADDING capabilities.

Thanks mate, we are starting to get serious about our defence one again, hard to believe that at the end of WWII we had the worlds fourth largest airforce and look at it now!

Con: Mate that is ok but our lo-viz roundels are dark. And I think our planes are going to be delivered in an Olive Green like those C-130H’s and not the Grey like the C-130J’s.

Still not long now till they arrive!

Facinating news, brings Boeing back from the brink doesn’t it.

Interesting how we commonwealth nations are only buying small numbers, I like the cross training idea, we do some cross training things already with the Hornets and other services (I remember having a Canadian navy chap in some of my classes back in catagory training in the navy).

So who else is up for them? Sweden and Norway we know but who else has a strategic transport requirement coming up?

Thanks once again Papa and also to you Mas. I have been a guest of many nations myself on behalf of Her Majesty’s Australian Government via my time in the navy, I have been to Israel, China, Russia, Kenya, Sri Lank and many more of the more normal operating places that we travel to.

I hope your divorce lawers are soon paid off, I too am divorced, happily for 14 years now sadly though this has always caused problems with my two daughters. I have a son also to another woman but that is another story entirely.

Yes the idea of these mortars was to cause the offending subs to surface and thus capture the crew alive and put them on trial (since Sweden is a neutral country it would be wrong of them to kill anyone even in self defence).

Japan’s order was of similar concern with both Chinese and North Koreans as well as Russians snooping around their shores.

Nice site that Portugese one, gee they have a lot of sail training ships. And looking at this picture

is that taken on the flight deck of an Italian San class or even the Garibaldi itself?

Also I don’t think this person is very well liked, have a look at what is on the back of his helmet 😉

Ohhhhh Papa, you make me blush and give me far too much credit, I only know what I know and nothing more, I treat my mind like a sponge, it soaks up everything. Having served in the navy did help my knowledge on ships a lot.

Thank you for the info and pics of Viking, very interesting.

I didn’t know that there were any Hkp-4’s still flying in Sweden, I suppose these will be replaced by the Hkp-14’s when they come on line.

Facinating pic of HMS Munter there mate, I can see the fordeck loaded with ASW mortars there are a heap of them aren’t there and both of these vessels seem to have guns of only 7.62mm size, I’d say the crew wouldn’t be more than a dozen, right?

As for you my friend, you present the air of a man well traveled and experienced in many things. Again I thank you for your input to both this forum and my own knowledge.

Thanks PR, interesting stuff there mate, wonder if the Navy MRH-90’s will be a version of the NFH NH-90, or just the same standards as those requested for the Army? Also it doesn’t say when these initial 12 helos are to be bought. We need them now, what is the delay?

Givce it up guys, the small flight deck does not conform to any known ship past or present and given the Stealth looks of the new ships I can confidently say that she looks like nothing in the future either. I pulled out my Jane’s Ship book and there is nothing in there at all like this, especially having a smoke stack so close to the hanger like that, it would impeed flight ops.

There are some that are close but that smoke stack is the sticking point!

Facinating pics there my friend, thank you for sharing.

Firstly, you only have 9 pics there one is missing any chance of seeing the tenth?

Secondly, HMS Härnösand isn’t very heavy is she?, Apart from riding so high out of the water in these pics, I’d say she is rather hollow inside.

What are the doors behind the ten in the second and fourth pics? you can clearly see them raised, what do they hide?

What is the current status of the Hkp-9’s? Are they going to be replaced by the Hkp-15’s now that these are starting to be delivered? Are any of the Visby’s currently fitted for the Hkp-15’s as originally planed? Looking at HMS Härnösand I can’t see it being fitted with the flight deck lift yet that is supposed to lower the Helo down into the ship (the other plan was fitting a hanger on the deck just aft of the bridge which will spoil the look IMHO).

Behind the CB-90 Fast Patrol boats is a grand old ship “Viking”, can you provide any details and perhaps a few more pics of her? Is she a sail training ship of the Swedish Navy?

Finally I really must ask this, is that you in the pic under your name?

What about the Green and white one that ran off the end of the Run way due to failing brakes steve? That was somewhere over in Africa mate.

Anyway Bring on the legal action, they’d get unbelieveable sales exposure and I’ll take a small pice of the credit- say one C-212 😉
