    I think the point is the world doesn’t revolve around Legends and Duxford, Legends tends to be a very impersonal place, lots of people pushing for the best view, and not caring about who is around them or whose toes they’re stepping on, however a visit to the Red Lion afterwards is worth the hassle, but there again sharing a room with Snapper may not be.

    I’ve been to Legends the last 3 years, and will be there next year, however I also hope to get to (dare I say it) Shuttleworth amongst others, it’s been drummed into me that over the past few years by the Croydon Short Wearer and the Wallsall Human Camera Trolley that this is the place to be, I hope to see this.

    Personally I like Legends but enjoy the smaller shows and venues, lets hope Chailey will happen in 2006.

    At present the SUnderland lives in the open at Kermit Weeks Fantasy of FLight. I had chance to chat to him in March and he told me that it will become the centre piece of a display that he is planning celebrating the history of the Trans Continental Fly Boat services of the 1930’s.

    It has flown a number of times in the States, In 1996, the Sunderland was flown to Sarasota, where it participated in the Olympic Torch relay to Atlanta by flying the Torch from Sarasota to Miami on the 4th of July. By all accounts it is also the last flying boat to operate out of the original Miami Pan Am Clipper Base in Dinner Key and the last flying boat to cross a major ocean. If I remember right, it hasn’t flown since 1998, but is still in air worthy condition.

    Interesting to note that the website claims that TE476 Spitfire XVI “GE-D”, “Winston Churchill”, is the most original restored Spitfire in the world, any comments on this claim ?

    FCL lists the following:-

    Both are buried in the Rheinburg War Cemetery.

    As said over on WiX (a very civilised place) I am tempted, this maybe an alternate to re-visiting the States next year. All I have to do is convince the present Mrs EN830 that she wants to endure the 24 hour flight to New Zealand.

    Quite an interesting article on how the Hawker Biplanes were put together and how they are being restored today.
