They arrived here at about 6:45 this evening, just as the light was beginning to fade. A few poor quality shots from their arrival, the beat up and break took us a bit by surprise as they did the classic approach straight out of the setting sun.

The weather at Manston kept the guys on the ground today, when they finally got away and headed towards Jersey, the weather came down over here. They diverted and are overnighting in France at Dinard.

Didn’t the Axis air forces (or the Russians, for that matter) indulge in “precision bombing”? Regards Wombat

Personally I can’t think of any one Axis raid which could be called precision.

Maybe the dive bombing involved with the sinking of the Prince of Wales and Repulse by the Japanese or the use of JU87’s during the Germans advance though Poland, the Low Countries and France was to a certain extent precision.

Hope you have a good show tomorrow Ian.

Presumably your illustrious commentator is flying commercial and not trying to get there by Rearwin Airlines?

No idea, but while I was at the Aeroclub this afternoon, hanging around waiting for the postponed arrival of the Spitfire and Hurricane, there was a sudden break in the cloud and a blinding light, it was either the arrival of our illustrious Melv or he had reason to bend over and the sun was shining through.

Did the Catalina manage to get to you Ian?

Looking at the Airshow website it’s due in tomorrow, so it appears a lot of stuff is stuck in the UK

I didn’t see it at the airport tonight as I drove past, but there again it was busy and also quite misty. It appears that it’s mainly the modern stuff that got in today and the SHF A26 and P51 yesterday. I don’t think the BBMF made it today either.

The plus side is they may come here even if they don’t take part in the airshow. So hopefully we’ll get to see 597 in the blue scheme in anycase. The weather is meant to lift sometime tomorrow morning so fingers crossed.

    Passed over Rettendon(Essex) about 3 .55.

They’re at Manston tonight, they couldn’t cross the Channel due to the weather, and thE odd FW190 no doubt. Hopefully going to have another attempt tomorrow.

Ah but the Nagasaki bomb was dropped nearly two miles from it’s intended target, the commercial area of the city. Because of this, it is claimed, that the death toll was less than the Hiroshima bomb.

Grand Slams on the Samur tunnel.

Not really precision though were they, the Grand Slam was designed by Barnes Wallis to have an earth-quake effect, theory being that a near miss would have the desired affect.

I believe one did penetrate the tunnel, but this was probably more luck than judgement.
