    Though the claim is that the crew were Canadian it doesn’t necessarily mean they were flying with an RCAF Squadron.

    Trossy St-Maximin was a V1 storage site which fits in with the details Andrew-O has forwarded, Murray was sent to Stalag Luft 7 Bankau_Kreulberg his POW No was 612. You may be able to glean further information from the PRO and AIR20 – 2336, this will either prove or dismiss this entry.

    Not correct.

    Only fatalities are listed on the CWGC site. Comes from the nature of the ‘G’ in CWGC.

    ‘Casualty’ includes wounded.

    Andy I’ll scan the relevant page at work tomorrow and forward to you by email from there, it is probably a long shot as none of the crew are listed as RCAF, but in this game you never know.

    Did I say survivor ? Uncle Mort suggested a casualty and I was pointing out that if he was, then surely he’d be listed on the CWGC website, any other useful remarks Moggy ????? Do keep up. I’ve found one result and possible match, how are you contributing ? 😉

    If he was a casualty then surely his details could be obtained from the CWGC website ??? Only one Murrie listed and he was RAAF.

    I trawled through the obvious pre and post June 6 operations when Bomber Command concentrated on France in support of the invasion; unfortunately I haven’t been able to see a Murrie listed as POW, INJ or EVD.

    There is a Sgt J Murray listed with a 625 Sqn Lancaster LM163 CF-J shot down on 3 August 1944 during an operation to Trossy St-Maximin, he was taken POW along with 4 other members of the crew, two others were killed and are buried in Marissel French National Cemetery. I know the spelling in BCL isn’t the same but this could be a typo !!!!

    I would love to buy a set, but can’t afford it this month (and no doubt they’ll be snapped up sharpish!), but would still like to own them!!

    In which case with your experience, why don’t you build your own, it would be a one off and far more unique.

    I’ll be there from Friday to Monday.

    Not me I’m afraid used up all my airshow tokens with the St Moritz trip.

    I believe Mk12 has managed to get a good deal through his connections at Saga holidays.

    They’re visiting another Island closer to home next week, which is great I get to see U-2 before it departs for the Med.

    Not been here long then, there’s only one pub near by worth visiting, The Red Lion. It’s the favoured haunt for many from the forum after the DX shows.

    It’s not hard to spot them.

    P6966 was put on charge with 25 Sqn June 1940, transferred to 263 Sqn 24 June 1940 at Grangemouth, Scotland. This aircraft was the first to be written off when the port tyre burst on take off. The pilot P/O McDermott managed to take off but Flying Control advised him that his undercart was badly damaged, he was further advised that trying to land the aircraft in such a state would be extremely hazardous, he opted to climb away and bail out between Grangemouth and Stirling. The aircraft dived in and buried itself 30ft into the ground. The ORB stated “Could not be recovered”.
