All over for this year, just the An2 and Sikorski S-38 to go. They leave on Wednesday to an airfield somewhere in England 😉

The date for the display next year will be 8th September and from what I hear on the grapevine should have the usual mix of unusual acts not seen anywhere else in the UK and possibly Europe.

I got up close and personal with it this afternoon.

I have to admit it’s a very interesting design but when parked along side CFC’s Dragon Rapide/ Dominie it’s not particularly pretty, it appears to be left over girders bolted together and three motorcycle side cars hung underneath.:)

The whole point of the exercise is to find a car that Kristin Scott-Thomas would not object to be driven in.

I’m afraid apart from some of the cars on J Boyles list and maybe Moggy’s E Type, none of the cars you lot have suggested pass the KS-T cool test.

Fighting on home soil and in defence of ones country is a good point Kev, however the defence would have been only as good as the leaders and their tactics. How well prepared were the defences and the plans to defend the South East, I recall reading somewhere that the plan was to withdraw to a point behind a large anti tank ditch some where around the South Downs and hope to hold the Germans there, however this would this have afforded them a substantial beachhead and the ability to reinforce for a bigger push north.

I wonder how the population would have reacted to the invading forces, staying put as the Government had ordered, or moving out as was the case in Europe and thus hampering the defending troops and their movement.

The Army was relatively intact, but short of equipment which it left behind in France and Belgium. If the Germans hand managed to land a create a beachhead on the South what credible opposition could the under armed British Army have put up ???
