For me the Veterans are everything, I have missed great chunks of the past two Legends because I have been talking to one Veteran or another, last year it was Jimmy Stewart, and the year before the 609 Sqn guys and Michel Donet, though the person running the signing event at that time was a complete and utter t!t, I think Snapper would back me up on this. Thankfully because of the 609 chaps I missed the Firefly tragedy.

At Chailey last year I hardly saw any of the display, I was chatting to Ludwig Matel, Franek Kornicki and their fellow Poles. Merlins over Malta was spent chatting to the Veterans and asking them to sign the piece of Hurricane Fabric that now adorns a wall in a Croydon Mansion.

All I can say is hopefully the aircraft will be here for many years to come, unfortunately it’s a fact of life that the Veterans won’t be. Personally I choose to chat and learn from them while I can. In years to come I can watch the metal grace the sky and remember the people that I have met.

I have no disrespect for those of us who go solely to see the aircraft, each of us has a different interest.

I see the Queen had her Morris Dancing hat on.

There was a rumour that Steve Patterson would be making a guest appearance, so she wore it in his honour.

The Queen thing is an attempt to slander my name, and I will deny all allegations made against me. It was fancy dress your honour.

He is a mighty fine chap, and it was a pleasure to have his company today, though I wouldn’t say that to his face.

A few more shots, including Mrs EN830 saying goodbye to the Author as he leaves Jersey airport.

Thanks guys, I told my Aunt I thought it was Cobhams circus, but couldn’t indentify the aircraft. That’s great.

A totally fascinating period of history I knew nothing about till tonight thanks to this thread and the radio.

I know the TV series ‘Enemy At The Door’ was set in the Channel Islands, but is it considered to be an accurate portrayal of events? I’m too young to remember it.

If I remember right Enemy at the Door was based on event in Sark, and drew on the experience of the the Dame of Sark, a formidable lady !!!! I don’t recall much of the series myself, though the more recent series which was filmed in the Isle of Man, was complete and utter bull’t.

Very nice pictures Ian, have you had chance for a flight yet? If it wasn’t for my hectic university finals I’d have found my way down there this weekend, oh well cest la vie 😉

(at least I will probably avoid Rapide cleaning duty…..)

Hi Will, going to the airport this morning to sign up for a flight, I see the Company Chairman plans to land the Rapide on the beach at St Aubins at 5pm on Monday. Hopefully we’ll get a few shots to post here. The BBMF will also be in attendance as will the Red Sparrows.

Glad to here you had a good time despite the showers, we’ve had glorious sunshine here all day. Why does the Suffolk Goatman need to be escorted, is he that untrustworthy ?

I’ve dropped you a PM T J, hangar flying and low level passes take place at the Red Lion after the show. Depending on who’s there heroic bulls**t might emerge!
