Well scanning through FCL I can find these that would appear relevant, there are a number of others but they were either shot down during the BoB, or over the Channel :-

P/O J G Pippet P7852 Thought to have collided during a convoy patrol

13 March 1941
Sqd/Ldr A Macdonell DFC P7555 POW Bailed out after combat with ME109’s near Calais

9 April 1941
P/O J H Rowden P7784 – Crashed on French coast after attack by Me109 of II/JG51, buried at Dunkirk. Could this one be this aircraft ?

Is it not possible to identify this one by the squadron letters, cockpit looks a bit of a mess.

Not from FCL’s some entries have Squadron codes against the particular aircraft serial, unfortunately the 64 Sqn entries don’t.

Judging by the reasonably intact state of the aircraft it may be possible that the pilot survived, which would point toward Flt/Sgt Hatch. But this is only a theory.

Using a magnifying glass is it possible to see any serial numbers or letter ?

Sad news indeed, I remember him talking about his role in Ice Cold in Alex, the scene towards the end where they arrive at the bar and he downs the glass of beer.

He recalled that shooting started early in the morning, and in the first shot he downs the beer, the director calls cut and the glass is replenished, the shot is taken again, the director calls cut, the glass is replenished and the scene is shot again, many times they went through the scene, many times he downed the beer, and the more he got p!ssed.

Great Pictures, how much longer with these wonderful old birds be in services for ?

I can remember seeing the world backwards in 1978. I was in the ATC and on camp at Lyneham. We were bused across to Brize for a couple of trips in VC10’s, I managed two and three in C130’s, a total of about 18 hours in one week’s camp.

One question, what is the policy re the use of the swastika on historic artefacts in Germany ? I was under the impression that it was prohibited.
