Interesting, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy James (not the actor) on a couple of occasions at Flying Legends. He was with 609 Sqn on Typhoons and was also shot down, captured and interned in Buchenwald.

I visited the camp in 1984, at the time Germany was still divided and the camp was within the DDR. The Communist authorities would take school children on a guided tours of the camp, nothing odd about that, however the tours were given by a military officer, I guess some sort of political liaison official to warn the children of the evils of Western Culture and the resurrection of Fascism. Pamphlets handed out at the camp when we were there, blamed the West German Government and Western Allies for not capturing the people responsible for the concentration camps.

As I said else where in this thread, my work takes me into Church on a regular basis I also have contracts with various religious groups.

My favourite out of all of them is our local Rector, I would also class him as a friend. He knows my views and doesn’t try to preach to or convert me to his way of thinking.

Two things I have heard him say, one made me think and the other laugh.

The first goes in line with GA’s comment.

Our rector said that god is not the person with a beard who sits on a cloud looking down on us, that’s Father Christmas, and that talking to god is praying, god talking to you is schizophrenia. This made me chuckle.

He also said that there is a misconception that god is physical in the same sense as a human being is. God, he said, is love ! All things come from love and when we leave, love stays behind with those we leave but also goes with us to the next destination. If you look at it this way then the presence of God is possible, but as love and I whole heartedly agreed with his analogy. I would like to think that death is not final and just a door to be opened and stepped through.

However his analogy hasn’t made me believe in a God, the writings contained within the bible or made me want to frequent church more than I have too. But I do believe in Barry White and the God Father of Love 🙂

I recall in 1979 during an ATC visit to RAF Bruggen in Germany that the BDR section had a Gannet, a Gnat and IIRC the remains of a Wessex. What ever happened to them.

There were also many Lightning decoys and at least 1 Canberra on the fire-dump.

Being nailed to a cross was a perfect sacrifice, for my sins, 1,931 years before I was born. He was assuming a lot.

Ah, so if you work less than 35 hours a week and earn less than 20k what are you then or what if you are self-employed ?

Also what if you own your own house, does that make you middle class ?
