Restoration !!!! I thought restoration meant to return it to it’s former self. Not paint it bright purple and stick a naff set of wheels on it. And you lot knock the colour of my yellow peril !!!!!!

Would you believe that the neutering system in Guernsey has been that successful there is now a shortage of moggies.

Guernsey is a place where one passport photo fits all, where they have a don’t look alike competition, where “keeping it in the family” has a totally different meaning 😀

I can sympathise, though we don’t have the contraptions here in Jersey yet.

I know a chap who owns an Aston and drives it at full bore most of the time, ironically he got booked over the limit in the family’s Volvo hack !!!! 🙂

It was said at Chailey on Sunday, when the three Poles were exchanging stories in front of quite a crowd of onlookers, if Mr & Mrs Posh Spice had walked in at that moment, nobody would have batted an eyelid. The real stars/heros are those old gents who did so much (and are so modest about what they did) 60+ years ago.

Do you know if Voytek made it to Guy Blacks yesterday, I was a bit sceptical about his 3 hour drive from Yeovilton to Hastings during the rush hour.

The problem on my home PC has been whittled down to this forum would you believe. The net is fine until I log on to the forum and then phutt the screen crashes.

Any suggestions?

May be a colour restorer or t-cut would do the job, I’d check with a local supplier or garage. Metallic paints can be ruined if the wrong substance is used.

I just realised that since he flew Spitfires, Sim will undoubtedly be mentioned in Spitfire: The New Zealand Story by Gerald S. Morris. I will have a look tomorrow unless someone here beats me to it (Mark12?)

What exactly do you want to know about him, have you any specific areas you’re trying to research or discover?

I am on the trail now of finding out about the NZ National Archives biography database – I’ll let you know if I hear where exactly to contact within this vast museum collection.

My interest apart from general historical aviation, is in the allied airmen who were shot down around the channel islands, Sim obviously being one of them.

I’m trying to piece together their lives, in time I hope to publish something on the subject, but as you can guess it’s quite a drawn out process. ANy info you can obtain would be of great interest to me.

My Grand Father served in the RA during WW1, he survived the war but died from TB in 1931, probably a result of being gassed.

I saw on the news last night the two gentlemen of 108 and 104 years young respectively, both will be at the Cenotaph today. As usual two modest old gentlemen, who don’t look their age, especially the chap who is 104. Just imagine how the world has change in their life time, from canvas and wire to Mach 3+ !!!!

Thanks Dave,

I know that he was one of the pilots who flew the first Spitfires from HMS Eagle in February 1942, and his photo is in Malta the Spitfire years. Unfortunately I don’t have my info with me here at work, but when I get home I’ll give you the squadrons that he served with.

He was shot down north of Sark in the Channel Islands in a 616 Sqn Spitfire, while escorting 263 Sqn Whirlwinds. 263 lost a Whirlwind on the same operation, flown by an Australian P/O Maxwell Cotton.

I have some info sent to me by a distant relative of his from Gisbourne but don’t have much.
