EN830Sorry SG, I don’t understand why you are so incensed at the loss of the 163. I could appreciate your angst if it had been the last example of the breed; however doesn’t the UK still has 3 in museums, Cosford, East Fortune and the Science Museum. So its loss is far out weighted by the gaining of the DH9 and the knowledge gained by Retrotec from its restoration which will go a long way towards returning another one to the air.

I’ve highlighted a couple of points, I’m guessing that Aerovintage’s common objective is to Restore Vintage aircraft either to the air or at least display standard. Some remain within the the group of Companies to be flown, others to be traded on to fund other projects and others as bespoked projects for certain clients. As this is their “business” then I’m sure to a certain extent a profit is involved. I don’t know of many companies, outside of the Communist system, that operate on making a loss.
The DH9 is a credit to Guy, the team at Retrotec and a great addition to the IMW at Duxford. What should not be forgotten is that the Me163 may have gone west to fund this project, however Retrotec, Aerovintage and HAC over the past few years have put into the air several significant rare airframes such as the Nieuport, two Nimrods and Bristol Fighter. Not to mention two Spitfires with at least two more passing through their hands to bring other airframes to the UK. We should also not loose sight of the fact that the wheeling and dealing that has gone on, also presents the tantilising sight of a Yak 1 in the air over Cambridgeshire in the not too distant future, several more Hawker Bi-Planes, another DH9 and possibly a Heinkel 162. If along the way a profit has been made, I’m all for the free enterprise and the rewards it brings to my hobby and interest.

The only 316 Sqn member that I have come across is Konrad Stembrowicz, unfortunately he passed away a couple of years ago. I also know of someone with a link to Teofil Szymankiewicz who was killed in a Mustang early in 1945.
I’m not sure if Michal Cwynar is still alive, IIRC he was living in Scotland a few years ago.

I reckon this is a photograph of the failed Iranian US Embassy rescue attempt on 25 April 1980, when a C130 collided with a CH53 on takeoff killing 8 servicemen.

1. We will bring our troops back from Germany and withdraw from NATO, since recent political developments make both commitments obsolete.

2. We will also withdraw all British troops with immediate effect from Iraq. We will never again involve British troops in any more American ‘wars for oil’ or neo-con adventures on behalf of the Zionist government of Israel.
What about British wars for oil, I guess once petrol hits £10.00 a gallon and their new and improved armed force grinds to a halt they will rethink this policy.
3. We will refuse to risk British lives in meddling ‘peace-keeping’ missions in parts of the world where no British interests are at stake – a position of armed neutrality.
Ah so we are becoming Switzerland with out the Alps and cowbells. Chocolate any one ????
4. We will restore the county regimental system and withdraw from the European Union plans for an European Army.
Yep, we will become Switzerland.
5. We will invest in creating an integrated defence structure that can respond to all 21st Century threats.
See clause 1, I thought the idea was to hide behind our Armed Neutrality.
6. If Britain is attacked by rogue states or terrorists then we will respond with appropriate force until the threat is eradicated.
As long as we don’t have to travel to another part of the world.
7. The compulsory National Service system discussed elsewhere in this Manifesto would begin at the age of 18 with a period of basic training in the army. This would include full training with the citizens’ assault rifle. Conscientious objectors who refuse to undertake military service would be allocated other constructive work for the community, but would not receive the citizen’s right to be armed, or the right to vote.
Even though it has been proven that a volunteer and professional armed service is much more effective that a conscripted force, plus where is the money coming from, as they advocate scrapping income tax ?

Individuals would be free to refuse to undertake any form of National Service, but such a refusal to serve the community for the common good would result in their not being entitled to free places at university, on training courses or self-employment schemes. Whereas some other politicians mouth platitudes about there being “no rights without responsibilities”, we mean it.
So the UK will have a bloody big army, with no one to fight because they won’t travel, those who won’t fight will be unemployed and uneducated.
Ill conceived policies from a bunch of Right Wing idiots. Their website has a message from someone in Jersey who is slating the fact that local health pamphlets have been written in Portuguese as well as Polish. His claim being that they should be written in the national language only. Unfortunately in Jersey it is still French, so about 70% of the population would not be able to read anything at all.

EN830Beware of buying a grey import, while the savings on initial purchase can be good, this can be lost if you have to get the camera repaired. Canon, especially, have been known to refuse to repair “greys” in the UK and insist that they go back to the area of purchase.
