Just as interesting, if not more so, is the items at min 12:57, and the collection of memorabilia relating to W/O Victor Arthur Roe who completed 85 sorties before his loss on 6 March 1945 over Chemnitz in Lancaster Mk111 ME333 of 35 Sqn.

The collection included, photographs, various letters, certificates and his GCM and DFM medals.

Probably not, I’m keen to see aviation history preserved. I am not worried, either way, whether this airframe remains in Calgary, and is preserved there, or returns to the UK for Peter Vacher to return to the skies.

I commented because I thought the claim that the airframe’s provenance is Canadian was a little ambiguous, considering this Mosquito’s actually history.

Good luck to whomever ends up with this airframe, just so long as it is preserved.

Apart from being built in the UK, the first 10 years of RS700’s operational life were spent in the UK, so any providence can be equally applied to the UK as much as it can be to Canada and it also appears to have only flown in Canada for a maximum of 7 years before being retired to museum status, at least a year of which was spent in Colombia and the Dominican Republic, so they may have a claim as well !

Wouldn’t a Mk XX, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, or 29 be more relevant to Canada ?

Can tourists aviod paying VAT on items they take home?

Tourists from Non EU states can claim back VAT, the majority of stores will have the relevant forms (ask first before making purchase), there is usually a VAT claim box at the point of departure where you deposit the form, you can also have the money credited to your credit card or BACS to your bank account. Living in the Channel Islands, I quite often claim back my VAT. On my 1DS Mk3 I saved over £1,000 with the price difference between here and the UK and also claiming back the VAT.
