I hope others follow suit. I will be gutted when the Vulcan is grounded, but you guys are giving me another type to look forward to. Even at the ripe old age of 32, I’ve never seen (or heard!) a Shack fly. 🙂
Can I make a polite suggestion…
I think you could charge more for having peoples names on the bomb doors, I will happily donate £20 for that privilege. 🙂
I know that many airshows are quite expensive to attend, and that freeloading may be the only way some people can get to see them.
I prefer to use the term ‘stealing’, because that is what the “freeloaders” are doing IMO. Aircraft are expensive to operate.
I have no issue with people standing outside the ground to take pictures with their expensive photography equipment, so long as they contribute at least as much to the show organizers.

if anybody see’s an airframe at the local museum that’s looking a little tired why don’t you join the volunteers and get stuck in. Many museums are short staffed as we all know and yes there are the H&S regulations to take into account but with a bit of training almost anybody could lend a hand looking after an airframe.
I tried volunteering at Elvington, but they demand a minimum of 4 days per month. That’s a pretty big ask for most people.
The myth of a true one-size-fits-all multi-role aircraft has been “shot down” many times before.
For gods sake, don’t say that on the Rafale thread! 😀
Agreed, J-20 look like a futuristic stealthy Mig-31 IMO. Given Sukhoi’s track record of making big jets ultra maneuverable, the T-50 will no doubt be a very capable dogfighter.
From the little info I can find on the web, it appears as if a laser designator was fitted, which pointed through the bomb aimers window position.
Are the conra-rotating propellers the reason it sounds so different to other Griffon Spits?
, but the problem is that the AIM-9X has to be carried externally, which is detrimental to stealth obviously.
In the case of the US, but surely F35B is capable of carrying ASRAAM internally? Could be an interim solution for the US too.
*shock horror* Strike aircraft isn’t a dogfighter.
/thread.
great pics 🙂 Going to really miss seeing her fly.
Some amazing pictures there, thanks for sharing! 🙂
The crowds were huge, it reminded me of the good old days of the airshows.
Can’t wait to see how this develops 🙂
Does this mean I’m building a new Sabre? Not at the moment but it is an option.
And I don’t envy you this task. Surely new building a Sabre will be measured in $millions rather than thousands!

She did a very short display over Elvington. 🙂
