This image made me ponder for a while
Should we be celebrating a united Europe on this D-day anniversary?
Sadly, I can’t help but think that despite the sacrifices of many lives, we have been dominated by an undemocratic regime from the continent.
Perhaps instead of trying to force the peoples of Europe together, we should celebrate our differences? They make us all unique.
If we are loosing a few of these fighters to raise funds for the Beaufighter, then I don’t mind. 😀
So could a squadron of Mosquito’s fly high and fast enough to avoid German fighters in daylight?
If caught they could jettison their bomb and dogfight?
The Sharp & Bowyer book lists an extensive number of kills for Mosquitos, including a considerable number of FW190s. While it could be foolish to try a one on one turning fight against a single seat fighter, it illustrates that they were capable of taking on the best the Luftwaffe had to offer. Remember, a single burst from the Mosquitos guns would be devastating against any aircraft.
Even though a UK still seems quite unlikely, at least we have a Beau that’s well on the way. 🙂
Staffs are naturally very well natured dogs, to the point where they used to have the nickname ‘nurse dogs’.
Sadly, many are now untrustworthy, due to either mistreatment or intentional training. my Sister has one, that is a fantastic dog, with a brilliant temperament, and I would trust it with a child (as much as you would trust any dog).
I work around dogs a lot, and I find that Jack Russels, Westies and Scotties often have more behavioural problems, as they get doted on by their owners, and never disciplined properly.
Some slightly iffy camera work at the end of this one 😀
Personally I feel that it would be more appropriate if we took the time to consider what is being commemorated rather than the specific nature of the commemoration.
Absoloutely, I suspect everyone on this forum would agree. But as enthusiasts, we obviously want to know about the actual commemorations too.
I recall 6″ cruiser, but give no guarantees that my memory isn’t at fault.
From the Sharp & Bowyer book:
“… more usually, 60lb. semi A.P. high-explosive-headed rockets, a salvo from which was equivalent to a broadside from a cruiser. On receipt of intelligence a handful of Mosquitoes could deliver, hundreds of miles away, equivalent fire power to a cruiser force, but with more tractability. They could repeat the dose a few hours later.”
Why should responsible dog owners be punished for the actions of a very small minority?
We could ban all sorts of things because a small group act in a reprehensible manner. (religion, gambling, alcohol, fast food etc) But I believe personal freedoms are more important than bending to the will of the PC brigade.
No doubt a Merlin Whirlwind would have shared many attributes with the later deHavilland Hornet.
That is true, to an extent, but the terms of those trades are dictated by the EU. So as with any brokerage, they are trading on your behalf.

I hope you don’t mind me adding a few from Sunday. 🙂 The move around in the hangar allowed for some new photo opportunities.
The Mirage III, looking brilliant in her fresh paint
Tony Agars Mosquito. Having quizzed a few members of staff about this over the last few weeks, no one seems to know what’s going on with it at the moment. Do any of the contributors know?
The BF109G replica. I helped with a few bits on this when it was built, which was around 20 years ago now! Still looks fantastic, and apparently fools a lot of people. 🙂
And the SE5A. Including an unusual ‘pilots eye’ view. 🙂

And undoubtedly one of the starts, the BBMF Spit’ IIa
