If you want to go tomorrow then yes, rail travel can be expensive but booked in advance and travelling off-peak I’ll bet you can get a fare for less than half that. There is always the option of driving into London. Good luck with that!
Are you condoning the current exploitative system?
I’m all in favour of a modern rail system, but i oppose this project because of the outright cost (which will undoubtedly increase substantially) for the benefit provided, and then after we’ve paid for all this, they’ll then charge us a premium to use it.
While I’m not a fan of complete renationalisation, it isn’t fair that we have to stump up for this, for private business to benefit. Either we pay and we benefit, or private business can pay for it. Given the compelling case MPs are making for this, you’d expect investors to be lining up…
How much will tickets cost? A ticket from York to London is currently circa £100, which is unaffordable to many.

As a Yorkie, it’s great to see the area receive the recognition it deserves. I wonder how the judges would feel if they saw York on a Saturday afternoon during the summer – full of Hen parties and drunk geordies.
Unfortunately, there are those who consider this beautiful area as “desolate”, and ripe for housing projects and fracking. 🙁

The feeling I got when that thread started turning sour, was that the attitude that some of the members who opposed Mark12s view had gone from disagreement to disrespectful.
If you’re reading this Mark12, you ever informative input into topics on this forum is sorely missed.
Your morals are commendable SNAFU, and in a perfect world, I’d completely agree.
Unfortunately, until you’ve been put into a similar situation, seen your friends, colleagues and countrymen constantly attacked and killed in the most inhumane ways, and been witness to the atrocities that these monsters commit on their fellow countrymen, I don’t think you nor I could realistically predict how we’d act.
The actions of these Marines was wrong, but it’s entirely likely that they’ve become that way as a consequence of keeping us safe.
And I still don’t see how this abhorrent act is even in the same universe as the actions of a group that attack young girls for wanting to be educated, regularly decapitate innocents, and throw acid in someones face for not wearing a Burqa.

And have no gas or electric because of constant striking? No thanks!
Government owned utilities only seems to fuel militant unionism. I’d rather pay more on my bills than revisit than unpleasant part of our past.

I find it curious that people say Hurricanes are difficult to restore compared to Spitfires, given the Hurricanes construction was in many ways traditional compared to the Spitfire.
Is it because the skills associated with that type of manufacture have largely disappeared? I understand that the framing is connected by many brackets, none of which are interchangeable.
A warm welcome back. 🙂
I hope this thread has given you a small taste of how widely your efforts are appreciated, by an international audience.
Long may your informative, picture filled posts continue! 🙂
Another great member worth mentioning in this thread is Mark12. His input is sorely missed by most.
