I saw on the News last night, some Pillock in Westminster has given the Elderly, some advice, as to how to keep warm this Winter and who are worried about the hike in gas and leccy prices, to put layers of clothing on, live in ONE room, and put the heating on at night.
Why don’t they cut some of the taxes they impose on the Utility bills, and hammer the suppliers, and sod the shareholders.
Just what Planet do they live on?.

At the risk of repeating myself it is to the Government you need to direct your complaints.
And don’t forget Snafu doesn’t accept the companies’ statements and is hot on the trail of ” larger profits”!!
Ah yes, we must not forget snafu, I hope his reply is not too long tonight, wonder what he has found out, bound to be worth reading, however long…..:) but the Government won’t listen to us will they Chas, hence my Post, “WHEN will they listen to US”.

Unfortunately the majority of the electorate that blame the government(s) for their high energy bills are likely to be persuaded by Mr Miliband’s promise that he can somehow instigate a magical ‘price-freeze’…
…it may win votes but it does not address the problem one iota!

As are the Bills Warren.
Even though we have tried to cut back, it’s a bit more of my savings going South every time the quarterly Bills come in.

The bumph we had through the post showed they make 5% profits which they need to invest.
By: Creaking Door - 28th October 2013 at 17:23
Ed Miliband is right. The prices these people charge should be capped for at least a period of time.
Socialist-inspired government intervention in free enterprise? Exactly, and I’m all for it.
I heard a figure quoted the other day that the energy companies make about 5% profit on their sales; they make large profits but it is based on huge sales. I cannot vouch the accuracy of that profit figure.
There is nothing wrong with socialism but is not a magic-spell; socialism has to operate within the same economic rules as capitalism. The bottom-line is that ‘socialist-inspired government intervention’ still has to be paid-for…
…and it has to be paid-for by the taxpayer.

And it costs a great deal more to produce a watt of electricity than it did 10 years ago.
By: Creaking Door - 28th October 2013 at 17:10
If you can light a bulb now at a minimum cost compared to 10 years ago thats alot of lost revenue.
I have no doubt that average electricity usage per household is higher now than it ever was.

It is a great pity that the stupid and irrational fear of nuclear anything effectively strangled research for many decades.
The CND muppets have a lot to answer for.
I agree overall but whilst this sort of thing happens there will always be doubts

You do need to know the country they are going to be operated in is stable in all aspects, staff are the very best regardless of cost to the share holders and defensive measures are 100%.
Think about it,
We now have low wattage lighting, electrical appliances, better insulation everything saving money so it makes you wonder where the companies are getting their money from, hence the need to hike it up.If you can light a bulb now at a minimum cost compared to 10 years ago thats alot of lost revenue.

You do that thing and if you discover the profits to be more than 6/7% I will be surprised, and even then those are far less than to be found in other industries. Easy enough to find as their accounts are in the public domain.

I shall do some research on revenues and distribution and see where any profits are allocated.
snafu, can you keep your “Findings” short, Chas wants an early night tonight…….:)

…not the energy companies, who are passing on increases over which they have little or no control.
That is not a statement that i can agree with as an excuse for high energy prices. There is an element of truth but little acknowledgement of distribution of profits which i suspect are not in favour of the custmoer via re-capitialisation of kit and infrastructure.
I shall do some research on revenues and distribution and see where any profits are allocated.

The trouble is Mr T, is that these M.Ps earn so much, a “Mere” 8 to 10% rise in gas and leccy bills means nothing to them, (Even more so as they are about to get yet ANOTHER pay rise).

In which case , MrT, what do you suppose will happen at the end of that period, during which the companies will have to continue to pay more for wholesale energy, more for distribution costs and more for green levies, without being able to recover any of the increases from their customers?
Unfortunately you have the wrong target in your sights. Because of their misguided and deluded “green” agenda this government and the last are largely responsible for the ever increasing costs of energy, not the energy companies, who are passing on increases over which they have little or no control.

Can you imagine any MP, or Paul Dacre for that matter, having to live in one room of their houses with three jumpers on this winter? No, nor can I, and the sooner we start prioritising the needs of the vulnerable rather than wealthy shareholders, or quit kissing the backsides of right-wing tabloid editors, the better.

Looks like it – that’s what we’ve been debating on here in various threads for about a year now…..
