Very bad news for Norwich Airport.
I’ve heard NWI mentioned several times in articles about LTE. Did they have a big presence there?

From what I have just read, LHR based crew will stay in hotels at GLA overnight.
Correct. And EDI.

My understanding of it is that there will be no reduction in routes or frequencies, but that the cabin crew base will close. Flights will be operated by LHR based cabin crew.

I think the best I ever heard was a South African friend of mine living in the UK who flew LHR JNB DUR JNB LHR, with only 1 hour in DUR, to drop off a package to her parents.
Standby tickets have given me some strange routings when direct flights were full.
GLA BHX CDG LGW rather than GLA LGW one Boxing Day was a favourite.
I once planned a “round the world in a short a time as possible” trip just for the hell of it, but never got round to doing it.

Apparently whatever the tech problem was also meant that a tug couldn’t be attached.

I flew Prestwick to Rome (Ciampino) … one of their “long” routes (5ish hours)
Did they charge extra for the scenic route or did they just get lost? 😉 Surely no more than 3 hours?

Does anyone know if I will get anything to eat/drink onboard or not?
I would think food and drink will be available to buy.

How complicated can bmi make catering?

they cant have been wearing their seat-belt,
Correct.
which I assume at 30mins prior to landing would have been turned on already for decent?
Not necessarily, this varies from airline to airline. I can’t speak for others but we usually have the signs on 10 minutes before landing on shorthaul flights, 25 minutes on lounghaul.

Also don’t forget that huge areas of West London and the M4 corridor have developed because of LHR and rely on it for their existence. To simply get rid of LHR would devistate commerce and society in these areas.

Isn’t LC the code for Loganair?
EDI – MAH on a Saab. Now that’s flying!

Possibly due to the type of ticket you are travelling on, some airlines keep things like choosing your seat (and sitting at the front) for those on full fare tickets.
You can still request a change by going to check-in although this rather defeats the point of trying to avoid the queues.
Have a good trip.

Ollie, I wish you all the luck in the world. I’ve been in your position twice, and it is truly awful but you will come to terms with it and you will move onwards and hopefully upwards.
Best wishes to your friends and colleagues too.

Am I missing something here, or how can Seguro blame the demise of Futura for their own demise?
I wondered about that one too.
You can bet your life that Seguro weren’t paying Futura up front, so the only thing I can think of is that getting replacement capacity on flights at short notice means having to pay extra, and this has proved to much for a company on the edge.
Or there’s my original thought which was that Futura going was a good opportunity to call it aday or a good excuse to hide behind.

And nice catch on the Kuwait A300!
Isn’t that a 310?

is this a daily service?
Do you mean the LHR MAN LHR being on the 767?
The Shuttle, as it was once branded, to LHR is usually on 319/320/321, however when the MAN JFK MAN 767 aircraft needs to be changed over the replacement aircraft comes up on the first LHR MAN departure, the crew then swap the aircraft with the one that has just arrived from JFK for the return to LHR.
On that day the aircraft was late in from JFK causing a one hour delay to our 0815 departure to LHR.
Does that answer your question?
