Homer, on this board that I can think of there’s myself, FlyMonarch, Softlad, Lukeylad and Wysiwyg all current, ex or wannabe cabin crew, all straight, and we can’t be the only ones.
Of course there are a lot of gay guys in the industry, but there are way more straight guys than you might think. I flew on a 767 recently with an all male cabin crew, all straight. The only gay crewmember was the Captain, whose girlfriend is cabin crew.
One of the best things about crew is how accepting they are of everyone. I guess it’s part of the job and what makes us want to do it.
i feel i would be ridiculed by certain family members.
That would be a real shame, but if you really want to do it, forget what family and friends think, and show them what a great life flying can be.

and a bit of luck and voila.
Did you mean an bit of luck and vodka?
Congratulations Deano. I know from watching our old friend Wysiwyg working his way through the various stages what a very long and very hard slog it is, so I really mean it. Well done, you must be delighted and very proud.

The 321’s usually only fly routes out of T4, hence no domestics. They are covering 319 maintenance for this month as they did once before last autumn IIRC, which is when they’ll have been seen at NCL.
I think I’ll save myself £6, fly to Gatwick, and indulge myself on the Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque in the First Lounge once again! 😉
That’s got be worth a 6 quid saving!

I can only guess that it might have been the Romanian registered exec 1-11 that was discussed on here a few weeks ago.
Anyone else got any actual facts?

The company are begging people from all over the airline to volunteer their own time to get bags moving, blaming recent disruption because of a gas leak near T4 and the recent security alert also in T4.
The simple fact is that in an effort to save money staffing levels in practically all operational areas have be cut to the point that the airline is grinding to a halt around us. Baggage is probably the most obvious area as it has the most obvious impact on the cutomer.
Whilst LHR is a nightmare to operate from, a lot of the delays are being caused by lack of dispatchers and gate teams as well as loaders and tug drivers.
These reductions in staffing levels are being made as part of the ‘Fit for 5’ programme under which manpower levels have for nearly 2 years been set at the levels needed once T5 is up and running, which are considerably lower than for the current 2 terminal operation.
By that time they’ll have pee’d off so many passengers, no-one will be flying with BA so T5 will work like a dream!

Some really great stuff there, please keep them coming and coming.
Do you think in years to come we’ll marvel at classics like a BA319 or a VS340? Only time will tell.
My only slight concern when these ‘classic’ threads appear is the number of aircraft they include that I have worked on. The DA727’s are possibles as are the BA 747s. The 3 BCal DC10s in a row are definates. Of course they must have been VERY new in that picture, and VERY old when I flew on them. At least that’s my story.
As I say please keep them coming.

it was only doing engine runs.
I wondered about that, but as I couldn’t see any chocks or ground equipment I wasn’t sure.
Just noticed you got G-BUSI in the background. I did the first LHR MAN LHR on that aircraft this morning. The crew I changed over with back at LHR were taking it up to ABZ.

Is that Scot Do328 missing part of the engine cowling?

Horrible livery on such a smart looking plane
Funnily enough I was thinking the opposite way round.

Airlines have to work to the rules laid down by the governing body of the country they are from. Some, eg:BA work just to these rules, others I imagine have their own, sometimes tighter, rules.
In the UK the CAA state that no electronic equipment of any sort may be used during taxi, take-off or landing. In flight certain electronic equipment may be used, generally speaking this would be equipment not capable of transmitting or recieving.
My own feeling is that it is more a case that it’s never been proven that they don’t interfere rather than proven that they do. However I do know a mobile phone can cause interference on radios, in much the same way that they can cause interference with say a stereo speaker. This is something I’ve heard myself when sitting on the flightdeck, and it can be distracting for the pilots at times of heavy workload, particularly when dealing with ATC.
The bottom line is that whether you or I think these rules are unreasonable doesn’t matter. If you break them you are commiting an offence under the ANO.
Just to answer a few specific points:
can you use flightsafe mode while using mobiles on planes
Certainly on BA aircraft you can.
i have clearly heard mobile phones ringing from overhead lockers during flights and the cabin crew seem to ignore them
In my experience crew would NEVER ignore a mobile phone ringing inflight, more likely they didn’t hear it even if you did.
Got the usual “company policy” answer
There is no other answer for her to give, she works to company policy, they work to CAA policy.
wrote to BA Technical Director and Training Manager
You’d have been better writing to the CAA.
the in aircraft mobile phone located between Premium Economy and Business Class is always on receive mode, even during take off, landing and approach.
Such systems are designed specifically for aircraft, furthermore it is in fact switched off completely during taxi, take off and landing.
get the camera out of your bag after the crew have taken their seats
Mark, I thought you knew better 😉

Thanks Future Pilot, sorry I must pay more attention.

Emirates comes top in my book for painting the underwing area red with a white logo, pure genius.
If I am honest I have no idea why it should, but that Emirates title on the underside REALLY bugs me.

Two questions…
Who is the red and white livery overflying?
What was the VS incident?
Thanks,

I’ve never flown with TOM. I did fly with BY on a 732 in 1983 but that probably doesn’t qualify me to comment on whether TOM are any good. However I do find this point that keeps recurring interesting.
Quoting T5 merely as one example:
As somebody else mentioned, if you get what you pay for, you should be expecting the same service as you’d get on a 5-star airline
When you book a package holiday you buy lots of services, flights included, from one company, but those services are actually provided by lots of different companies, or at least divisions. I think you’d be surprised if you saw the breakdown of how much you pay for what, just how little you actually pay for your flights. Charter flights generally operate with tiny profits from each passenger they fly, sometimes as little as pennies.
I understand that you may be paying thousands for the holiday, but if most of that went on fantastic flights what would be left to pay for all the other things you’d expect of your package? So I’m afraid if it is true that you get what you pay for, you’re not going to get much on your average charter flight.
That said charter, loco or full service, there is no excuse for miserable, disinterested crew!
