As I said in my earlier posts your opinions seem to be those of someone that objects to noise from airports, which doesn’t make sense from someone taking part in an aviation forum.
“I’m a local resident and most dislike RJ100s and 135s”
“I don’t want the A318 to become certified”
“yet another jet”
“complaint with neighbours”
“louder than any existing jet”
“the thing is loud”
“not sure on city’s neighbours though”
When I expressed this before you said I was wrong, but your comments have carried on in the same manner. I’m not knocking you for it, I’m just intrigued that someone who seems to be an aviation enthusiast also seems to object to the industry developing at LCY.

Interesting report. Or do I mean rant?
I am the first to spend any time at an airport watching aircraft, but you do have to bear in mind that airports are not aviation theme parks. They are not designed for spotting or staying at they are designed for passing through.
My experience of NCL last week was very different. I landed from LGW 15 minutes ahead of schedule. By the time I arrived at baggage reclaim my bag was already on the belt. There was no queue at the car hire desk and I was getting into my car at my scheduled arrival time.
On my way back I dropped the car keys off, checked in and went through departures in the space of 5 minutes without any queueing at all. I had a bite to eat at a ‘healthy eating cafe’ then made my way to the gate, down the jetty and onto the aircraft. We puched back 5 minutes early.
EVERY staff member (airline, airport, security and cafe) I came into contact with was friendly, polite and efficient.
I suspect you have fallen into the classic trap Comet. You got off to a bad start, not finding what you wanted in terms of eating places. And from then on you were determined that everything was awful. Newcastle and the surrounding area are full of incredible eating places, if only you had bothered to find out.
One last thing. BA have priority on the one and only jetty used by scheduled flights because they actually paid the airport for it to be built. That’s not unreasonable is it?

Happy Today
Wozza, I’m really not sure where you are coming from on this one. I still get this strange feeling that you like aviation on everyone elses doorstep, but not your own.
Could you please explain for me why you seem so keen that LCY should never again see any form of change?

Tom,
What time was it when nothing arrived for 20 minutes?
I know it was closed to inbound traffic for 20 minutes at about 1800 to allow a medical diversion in.

A useless local fact for you.
If you look closely at the buildings in the background to the right of the hangars, the dark building is Astral Towers which locals will know today as the home of British Airways Holidays. When this was taken it was BCals recently opened new head office building. You can just make out their name on the roof.

Sorry, maybe I mis-understood your posts. I got the impression that you personally didn’t want the A318 because of the noise it would cause you.
Like I said, no disrespect intended.

I’m a local resident
I don’t want the A318
NIMBY?
No disrespect intended wozza, but your thoughts seem a little unusual for someone taking part in an aviation enthusiast forum.

I prefer the look of where the photo was taken FROM to be honest.
That spot is only a couple of miles from my house and I drive past it most days. It does have restrictions as Hugh Jarse says, but most of the time they seem fairly relaxed about things.
I wouldn’t imagine it’s a great place to look onto the field though as it is all high fences, shrubs and embankments, but you would get good views of aicraft on final.

I bet that landing put the wind up the punters on the Eastern Jetstream.

I stand corrected Phil. Just shows how yesterdays plan becomes todays chip wrapper.

Aw, go on Spence. Ask! lol.

And Australian flights as well – apparently to keep the cohesion with Qantas.
Not saying that isn’t correct but I haven’t heard this at work.
Don’t forget the T3 issue isn’t something BA wants, it’s something that will have to happen. So it’s not really about keeping ‘cohesion’ so much as making the best of a less than ideal situation. Ultimately everything will be at T5 so there will be no common terminal with any of the partners airlines.

Develop 2 individual brands so people can distinguish the two (
That’s a good point. When I was queueing at bmi check-in in GLA the 3 people in front of me were all travelling on a baby flight and had to be sent to the seperate baby (handling agent) check-in desks, so clearly they weren’t sure who they were flying with. Probably made worse by being able to book both airlines though each others websites.

They operate both.

I’ve just flown bmi twice in 2 days for the first time in years, last time they still had Diamond Service.
On the whole it was good, although I couldn’t believe how quiet the flights were. No more than 20 on the LHR GLA yesterday and I would guess about 80 today coming back, but that was 2 flights combined as the previous one was cancelled and included at least 12 staff passengers that I spotted. Ironically I used bmi both ways as our flight were completely full.
It seemed a little odd to be given complimentary newspapers on a loco. Food and drink choice not good and expensive for very poor quality (almost inedible) sandwiches, but the aircraft was pristine and crews great.
One thing did occur to me…
bmi are now full service on regional and (mainly) loco at LHR. BA are loco on regional and full service at LHR. Which do you guys thinks is most likely to work as a strategy?
