Not sure about that Mark to be honest.

Of course a lot can change between now and then. One thing about BA and BAA is that todays plan is tomorrows wastepaper!

The intention at the moment is that T5 will only be used by BA and it’s franchise partners. The other Oneworld airlines will not be using T5. I believe a decision is yet to be made regarding how best to bring the rest of the Oneworld carriers together at LHR and how this can be linked in to the BA operation, although a Oneworld area of T3 seems to be the favourite at the moment, purely as it is the closest to T5.

As for BAA ‘shafting’ BA regarding sole occupation of T5, BA have agreed to a lot of conditions to secure sole use, so I think the contracts will have been written in such a way that BA is much more protected on this one than when T4 opened.

I think the fact that T5 can accomodate the A380 is simply BAA planning ahead for future possibilities for once. I wouldn’t read too much into it as far as BA is concerned.

I’m getting used to the TUI scheme, although I still don’t like it. What I don’t get is the obsession with putting the word ‘fly’ after everything. Corsair isn’t a bad name, but Corsairfly sounds rediculous.

I’m glad to see we are in there in 2 of our main markets.

The Institute of Customer Service have also awarded BA cabin crew ‘World Class’ status having achieved the highest ever results in their assessment of airline staff.

See I am quite good at this!

The BA website shows current listings but the only thing I can think of to get past listings is to get hold of the Highlife inflight magazine for the month in question.

Highlife is available to buy by subscription so the publishers might be able to supply you with a back edition.

I can get an address for you when I go back to work if you like.

    fabulous.

The BOAC and BOAC Cunard livery were so majestic and regal.

Absolutely agreed. I loved the uniform too.

No fuss about the lack of Union Flag on the tail in those days either.

I’m guessing that bmi want to take passengers from the established loco’s by offering the appeal of LHR. Of course they run the risk of alienating everyone, business class to BA etc and everyone else to the loco’s, especially if their new lower fares aren’t low enough.

They are talking about lead fares of £25 one way plus tax which is good compared with say the current LHR-MAN lead fare of £105, but still not great compared with the likes of Jet2 to LGW, or even BA’s lead fare to LHR and LGW of £59 inc tax and frills (even if it is the off-peak All Day Deli service!).

Not sure about the 4 routes keeping business class. Obviously they are keeping the good performers, but they don’t fit any kind of pattern.

LBA-LHR-BRU, one class then two class.
GLA-LHR-AMS, two class then one class.

Most of our business class passengers wouldn’t dream of travelling economy, especially when their company is paying. If people use other carriers on routes where bmi have dropped business class, then loyalties (and mileage accounts) may well change and in the long run the few routes left with business class may well suffer too.

I really hope this works for bmi, but I’m sure my (many) bosses at Waterside are rubbing their hands with glee at the moment.

None of this is new. It’s been going on for as long as I have been flying to Italy.

It’s just the Italian way and the rest of us work around it as best we can.

    So the Air Europe link…

Well the airline is headed by former Air Europe founder Giuseppe Gentile! Most staff are ex Air Europe as well.

    And I win that one!

Funnily I asked an ex-Britannia colleague of mine about this just the other day.

Apparently the idea is that eventually you and I won’t be able to tell the difference between the two airlines. One website, identical look, identical service, etc., whether charter flight or lo-co flight.

By all accounts the whole Britannia/Thomson/Thomsonfly/TUI thing is a nightmare within the company, with people not even sure who they work for any more!

From the type faces used for ‘Air Italy’ and the ”It’s nice to fly with friends again’ slogan I would say it has more to do with Air Europe.

Air Europe UK used ‘It’s nice to fly with friends’ as its advertising motto for the whole of it’s existance, and of course owned Air Europe Italy which was sold when the parent company ceased operations in 1991.

The book of Air Europe UK’s history is also called ‘It’s nice to fly with friends.
