Flying lessons….

Try looking on here – there’s some aircraft on there that almost no-one has heard of!
A few from me… In no particular order:
A crashed He111 probably at Mosul during WW2
Very poor quality pic captioned ‘They were Germans’. Kind of speaks for itself.
Brand new VC10 at Farnborough
Mossie at Teeside air show, late 80’s
T6G at Kissimmee early 90’s with me in the back seat!
Jag at Leeming Air day ’94
I think the locations of the impact points have been identified, but they are inaccessible to the heavy machinery needed for a deep excavation. As I understand it anyway…. Pagen01 – don’t you have some info on this crash?
RIP Ray.
Speaking of the gent himself, during his RAF career, his mascot was Gus Gus, the fat mouse from Disney’s Cinderella – how many and which of his aircraft carried this mascot?
The deal had been done for us to collect almost what we wanted from 190, all PFCU’s, u/c legs, etc. The scrap men were just waiting for our call to save the bits we wanted – the avionic boxes were set aside (if fact I think they might have gone with the cockpit to Manston). As I understand it, the reason so much was scrapped was down to miscommunication….. damn.
It was a rushed job sadly – I was asked to paint it about 2 weeks before the roll out of the helicopter at Doncaster. The paint was still wet when it was delivered…..
A word of encouragement for everyone who is posting picture on this thread –
Gerald Coulson is regarded as one of the world’s foremost aviation artists, and anyone would be hard pushed to critisise his work… however….
I own a print of his wonderful ‘Lancaster at Rest’, which is an amazingly evocative work of art. If you look closely, pencil lines are evident, especially arond the stbd wing, and the props on the stbd wing don’t quite line up properly….
Even the master’s of this profession are not perfect, so keep painting, keep posting them on here, and above all, don’t take the critisism to heart! It all helps in the long run… :D. We need more ametuer pics on here – if you own a pencil, start drawing aeroplanes!
Seeing the cockpit pictures really shows how much good work has gone into Lindy over the last few years. Well done to all – keep it up!
looks like a great model, but even better is getting Google Toolbar to translate the page. Priceless…
awesome as ever.
the question is: was it turned into pots and pans, moved from site, burned or buried?…… I’m trying to quash some rumours… 😉
having saved it and looked at it closely, I’ve changed my mind. It is real, but set up. The pilot has a bit of a belly, and is certainly not wearing flying gear. The hand is clenched.
I’d vote for crash site some days post crash (therefore a scrap scene), and a couple of idiots mucking around in it.
Fin removed for use in a Squadron bar? Possible visible gunfire marks on the elevators, but access panels removed properly? What is in an Me109 behind the seat that would be of any use to anyone? That section has been hacked away. Tail wheel has gone, but not the leg. Prop damage is consistant with an engine running strike at a reasonable speed. hmmmm
I think it is a genuine period photo, but is it me, or does the field behind the aircraft look as if it could have been added by the censors? Could this be a crash at an airfield? Has anyone identified the aircraft and unit yet?
It looks fake to me. As previously said, the pilot’s arm doesn’t look real at all – probably 1:24th scale – my 1:24 Lotus 72D (Emerson Fittipaldi) has a similar arm casting. The ground doesn’t look quite right either.
Could it be a fusion of model, photo and some photoshop skill?
