………! Is there a large aircraft out there that does’nt come back with “minor snags”
Keith.
A 737 landed at Newcastle last week completely servicable….. mind you it was only 3 days old….:D
Good update Smiler! Thanks:cool:
All they have to do is ‘bend’ a sea king and tow it across the airfield…….:D
I’m completely self taught. I failed Art at GCSE level….
I started by reading and copying David Shepard books as well as Robert Taylor. Don’t be tempted to just concentrate on ‘aviation artists’. Look at landscape artists too, aswell as mild interest in masters such as Constable. Turner is particularly good if you like loose styled paintings with alot of mood.
Above all, develop your own style, and have fun!
As promised, here are the JP and Jetstream paintings – as always, oil on board. The JP is 3ft x 4ft, and the jetstream is 5ft x 3 ft. Donated to Newcastle College for use in their new building……

Looking at the people in firefighters gear she may be powered up again today. Question for those with technical knowledge.
Could yesterdays faults have been simply corrected and she be on her way up again for a test this afternoon?
Just aware that we were told it was a just a microswitch and a couple of minor snags with the avionics. Wouldn’t you take her up to test the avionics? The gear I accept you could do on the ground.
The gear would have to be cycled on the ground – jacked up of course, before flight testing again.
🙂 Very very nice.It is interesting to see how other people proceed with their paintings.
Can you post the updated or finished version when you’re done please.:D
Just out of interest ,how long have you spent on this, the actual painting side?
Thanks:)
what you see is about 15 hours work so far, spread out over the last 2 months. And, yes – when its done, I’ll post a pic. I’ll try to take a better one of it now also…

Sneak preview of a private commission. Sea Harrier FRS1, HMS Invincible. Oil on board (3ft x 5ft)
Unfortunately the camera flash has lightened the whole thing – the roundel blue is actually very much darker….
Tony has a good point. While its rightful place should be Boscome Down or Cosford, perhaps if it was bought by a willing philanthropist and donated it would be almost guaranteed survival. I’d love to be in a position to offer it a home, but not only does it not fit in with our collection policy, we would not be able to afford it at that price (or any price to be fair).
Albert, regarding photography, MOD sites ESPECIALLY BD have strict limitations on photography. Go easy on them.:D
six million quid and they didn’t even paint the red on the fin flash… a terrible waste. Where’s our money going? 😉 😉 😉
coat, (MLG) door, etc.
Great pics.
Just to be absolutely clear, that was said with tongue planted firmly in cheek…

Does anyone have any information on an aircraft which was allegedly a german bomber, visible at low tide somewhere along the Northumberland coast (south of amble?). I vaguely remember my mum telling me about it during a family beach trip many moons ago…. It was visible until at least the mid 1960’s.
By way of an update, since this thread has sprung to life again, I mentioned this aircraft to my dear old mum again today, and apparently it was visible on the rocks off Warkworth (near the caravan site) until the early 60’s.
Hi New to the board but i can see the debate has been solved by a couple of Photos and press,, but i have just been fitting a kitchen in a house in
stobs wood for an ex RAF Service man,, John Burns who was stationed at Amble Rescue Station 51-52 then moved over to Blyth
He recalls after you walked up the ramp, you met the winch house and beind
that was an L SHAPED building which was the cookhouse, rec room and
billit combination,,sadly he has no photos but intends to make a list
of the personal that where there during his time,,:D
Ambler, thats great. If you would be able to allow us to see a copy of that list, it would make a great display. This thread was designed as a research point for Wings Over Northumberland – a project directed by Phantom Phil, WWRgallery and myself. Any photos, recollections, etc are invaluable to us. Thanks again, and in advance
LL
Thanks Chaps.
Hadn’t read that far.. Only a quick glance and thought it might be of interest. If I had seen it was outdated I would have mentioned it. It is a shame to be losing so many of our bases!
As an aside, or even remaining on topic… there are at least 3 projects in the early stages to help save or improve former RAF airfields:
Eshott (Wings over Northumberland)
Weston Zoyland (Merkle, etc)
Driffield (Philip Rhodes)
any more?
Great Stuff:D
Did she fly a week or so before Easter at all?
My Daughter (age 7) told me she saw it fly over her school and described it in reasonable detail (she has seen the vids and has a Vulcan teddy)
not unless someone else has a secret flying Vulcan… perhaps with Douglas Bader at the helm.;)
Previous single flight was October 2007
We have the “Unimetals Collection” on loan for a min 5 years, once the dust has settled and they are properly in place we will see if we can persuade them to allow their restoration to move forward some what, or at least some preservation to be carried out.
good to hear. Good luck
