Today the webcams were adjusted to give a better view of the aircraft and of the main hangar overall. They can be viewed by clicking this link:
Things to look out for are:
Swift Fuselage WK198
Me polishing the F86D (most likely tomorrow, but Sunday for sure)
FMA Pucara
Alex’s Anson
If you have any suggestions on the general layout of the hangar, feel free to comment as well as displays etc. We are now concentrating on improving the museum site and presentation of the artifacts and aeroplanes. Comments and ideas will be appreciated and possibly acted upon depending on the views of the committee…. you never know your luck! Please don’t suggest ‘a new hangar’…….
The Anson will be moving to another shed soon, and the corner it currently occupies will have a Sea Venom in it… The Swift MIGHT move too to be replaced by a Dragonfly nose to nose with the Widgeon.
As ever, thanks for reading this tome, and I hope its been worthwhile so far…:D 😀
I have a vague recollection of a similar discussion on here a couple of months back. I think it was said ‘ The nose turret was restored, but a survey of the fuselage revealed that it was too badly corroded or damaged to restore the original structure.’ or something along those lines anyway…..
Keep it as it is, but perhaps a better presented display may be a more fitting tribute. Green lights and watery sounds….. and a few stuffed fish…., oh and in its own enclosure NOT stuck next to complete aircraft…
Well thats my opinion anyway…..
Its amazing what a few quid can do for one’s museum….
Its an awesome place. Did you press the big red button that says ‘do not press’ on the interactive screens?
Wasn’t that the last time that any of them flew, I can’t remember the date though. I was able to get down the field at the end of the runway and video the whole event, it was quite an experience to be behind a Victor on take off. A good take off sequence too, the first took off, turned, then flew back over the other as it took off, etc. Unfortunately all three flew across at right angles to the runway, I don’t recall them overhead, then they landed in the opposite direction. Sorry can’t replay the tape on my new camera to check the date.
No, a few weeks later Lindy flew to elvington, Brunty’s victor flew there, and the last victor flight was the RF museums example which flew into Stafford or shawbury (can’t remember which) since Cosford’s runway was too short.
The flight referred to in his thread could have been any one of them OR a special flight arranged before the delivery flights.
Here’s a thought – if the aircraft had a clean wing (i.e. no tanks on at all) then it was the RAFM’s victor on its final delivery flight…..

Stone, Staffs – at least in 2006 it was listed as being there…, but it is seen being removed from Long Marston….
according to air britain, the piston provost was at Wellesboune in 2004 and looking well
Didn’t that one form part of a bigger group of exhibitions on one site? I have a postcard somewhere with the aircraft, a rose garden or something, and possibly a butterfly fam too…..
If its the one I vaguely remember as a kid, the very first aircraft I went into was their whirlwind. Some older kid wou;ldnt let me up the stairs to the flight deck and it scarred me for life.
Pretty sure there was a sea venom there too. As I remember it, all the aircraft were parked out on the grass….
Thats a blast from the past…..
edit: a quick search turned this lot up:

I remember the place well as (apart from Exeter airport) it was the only interesting place on family holidays in Devon in the 70’s! It was very out of the way on a hill with what looked like converted farm buildings providing some shelter. The Messenger,Avian,Proctor and Tiger were under shelter the rest outside..

What the wrecked cockpit, is it being re-built?
Zero fighter. I’d imagine its in the LONG LONG queue…. difficult resoration though – paper thin skin, and its not in the best of health.
The FW190 is one of the Flug Werks reproductions / follow on production run / whatever…. I’d hazard a guess that it will fly when the design gets its approval. It all seems to have gone quiet for news of Flug Werks. I must be listening in the wrong places….. Does it belong to Tom Blair , Paul Allen or TFC, or someone else?
Good pics by the way!
Here’s my question though – Whats the plans for the firefly?
Does that count as a Nissan Hut? I’ll get me coat…:o
On another note, it was good fun seeing the Bofors gunners trying to draw a bead on the Police helicopter…:D
and to think that I very carefully sidestepped that horrible gag….:D 😀
how much would it cost to dismantle her properly, and transport her via road to another airfield where she would be have a secure future? surely she isn’t the worst condition Vulcan around?
Worst condition Vulcan? That would be ours….(NEAM)
I am lead to believe that 603 is now owned by TVOC etc, and is to be used for spares for several other Vulcans. A sad end to a nice example… As was said before, there may be a window of 12 months from 558’s first flight where this aircraft will be in one piece. It is not my place to comment or speculate on the future of 603 other that what I have already said. Hope its some condolence that 603 will be used to keep the rest going for a while.
No help whatsoever, but XL231 was the lead aircraft in the Vic that overflew the disbandment ceremony of 55sqn at marham.
I thought it would be lightharted way of asking:) We have a large parachute on display in eh hangar with it being hung from the rafters. Wonder if you could do the same if there was space?
We have the space – in fact that very thing was tried – a large hoop was constructed to have the parachute in its open configuration, but it failed…. I don’t know why – it was before my time. Its something else to consider…. my list of projects expands on a daily basis…! 😮
Vulcan

My list is one of the smaller ones – the other active restorers have ALOT on their plate too…
Sorry thought I would give a laugh, Serious though, does she still have a drag chute fitted or was this removed?
The ‘lady’s knickers’ as you so politely put it are not fitted to the aircraft, but are with the museum. Its a big old bit of cloth and we have looked at several different ways of displaying it with varying amounts of success……
I was there on Saturday with wife and two sons. Everybody had an excellent time – including of course looking in the Vulcan cockpit!
Well done and many thanks to all involved in arranging it – including the ATC cadets who impressed everyone with their efficiency and politeness in guiding everybody from the carpark – a credit to thier unit.
Paul
Blame Karl and semi-Hogg for organising it – It’s their baby…
Chances are Vildebeest, you saw me – snazzy cravatt and F/Lt RAF uniform…. loitering about…
We have helped several charities as well as ourself this weekend – the local air ambulance has (is about to) get a good donation….
Again, well done all.
Right, time to get back to polishing the F86……
