Battle of Britain, in a gazebo at cockpitfest
Great photos, It must be like 50 yrs since I have been to “The Smoke” as we called it those days, Wow, how it’s changed.
Jim.
Lincoln .7
It must be like four hours since I was there, I work in Canary Wharf, the big pointy building. I must take my camera in.
Technically I suppose I’m still there, my address is London but it’s about five miles or so from central

Au contraire,
We do not need nurses with degrees other than a degree in compassion. They need to be literate and numerate with a sense of vocation. That is what is needed. With those kind of entry qualifications many more of our ‘home growns’ would be attracted to the vocation of nursing thus avoiding importation problems.
.
Have you seen how technical a nurse’s job is now? They can be specialists in certain conditions or diseases, prescribe some drugs, sit on Clinical Commissioning Groups specialist teams at the same level as consultants, they most definitely do need training to degree level. The old style nurses roles tend now to be filled by Health Care Assistants or similar.

I stand to be corrected, but I believe that is an urban myth ?
Unless you stayed on the line for about 10 minutes
It is an urban myth. The most you should pay for a call at the moment is £1.53 per minute unless you ring from a mobile as the mobile phone companies put a huge surcharge on calls to Premium Rate numbers.
This will change next week when new charging comes in, the service provider will have to say what they receive from the call plus their phone companies charge and your phone company will have to tell you what they will charge you to send the call. As a result, calls from mobiles to high rate numbers will be cheaper but calls to low rate numbers will be much higher.
So it will be cheaper to phone a mucky service but dearer to phone an advice line
This is the OFCOM web site that explains it:

Probably been asked before but I can’t find it.
Anyone have a way of replacing the black “crackle” type coating on British control handles? The resin or whatever it was they used to use is no longer available.
, the only event that gives restorers from all walks of life the opportunity in sharing their projects.
Sorry but that’s just not true, it’s just the only one most cockpit owners can be bothered to attend.
There is, or was an annual event at or near Hooton Park. I’ve never been to that one so I can’t comment on it.
There is the event at Damyns Hall where they are very keen to attract cockpit owners, they’ll even pay petrol costs, but only two or three cockpit owners seem able to get off their backsides and go there. I can see there might be a problem with distance for some but this will be less of a problem for others. If a tank owner can spend hundreds of pounds and take two or three days each way to get there and back why can’t we put in a little effort. This could be a complementary event to cockpitfest but spread the word to a much wider audience. I don’t know the figures for Newark but at Damyns Hall it’s nearly 20,000 people and going by experience last year they’re all respectful of the cockpits. They don’t have baked potato and free beer but the beer is cheap and the entertainment, free and exclusive to exhibitors, is outstanding.
The hobby/movement needs more exposure, Newark is good for the North, Damyns Hall is good for the south.
Really?! The cross of St George is the English flag and is so incorporated in the Union Jack.
Really. The cross of St George is just that, the cross of St George, not the English flag. The Union Jack/flag also has the cross of St Andrew, not the Scottish flag, and the cross of St Patrick, not the Irish flag. Poor old St David didn’t get a look in.
It’s an interesting tag, I wonder if the purpose built 1930 theatre or the 17th century pub before that had a museum or perhaps during WW2 they handed them around in the intermission in the Whitehall follies show…perhaps someone didn’t do their research before making them up 😉
Or perhaps the tags are from the Whitehall Theatre of War set up by Paul Raymond in the Whitehall Theatre. Many of the aviation items were bought at the sale of the contents of the Southend Museum. From memory some of the aircraft were suspended from the ceiling. The local council closed it down, partly because nothing moved, which was a complete reversal of the situation many years prior at the Windmill theatre also owned by Paul Raymond, where nothing was allowed to move. There was a view that it was a bit of spite because they hadn’t been able to close down his “adult entertainment” shows in Soho.
The London War Museum was set up in the arches under London Bridge Station and in Crucifix Lane. Never managed to find it open but after it closed for good there was a person selling lots of the smaller items from the museum in the Saturday Militaria market on the concourse at London Bridge station. Happy days, harness suits for £15 and I never bought one
I’m in London, bit short on farmers of the agricultural type.
Looking at people’s faces there’s plenty of the other type of farmers
[I] The same issue is even worse when applied to England’s flag. The flag was rarely used or seen, until it became the symbol of far-right political groups. That was the start of a process that tainted the flag, and the problem got even worse when it was embraced by supporters of the national football team. Consequently, if anyone ventures to wear or display England’s flag, they would now be perceived as being either a pseudo-fascist, or a football fan. It’s absurd! 🙂
Not trying to be clever but I don’t know what England’s flag looks like or even if there is one.
The football supporters and the far right are using St George’s flag. Some people are waving the Union flag at celebrations, but I’ve never seen anything I recognise as the English Flag. Welsh and Scottish yes but not English
I believe 2.9M is the legal limit without a movement order/ escorting; I seem to recall about 1M overhang to the rear, and up to the 2.9M on the sides suitably attired with warning triangles and running lights for night time.
It’s worth looking at whether you are insured for trailer work , and also the gross weight of the combination, as many vehicles have very poor towing capacities.
Thanks for that, so 9’6″ maximum width and it can overhang. That’s useful. Means I don’t have to have an escort and provided it’s safe the trailer can be narrower than the fuselage.
No idea what the gross weight will be. Been looking for weighbridges locally, haven’t found one yet.
Well I will be going, as its in Essex, but wont be able to bring the B-17 cockpit along, will save that till next year.
So are you bringing the B-17 this year?
