    What’s the matter with people?

A new show near a motorway, cheap beer, entertainment and possible help with transport. Not only that, it’s in the South, sort of, so all those who complain that Newark and Hooton Park are too far away have been answered. I’d have expected there to be a queue. Maybe they need to put on a hog roast.

Seriously, this is a chance to spread the word to a huge audience. Why isn’t more interest being shown?

I looked on the Flightpath web site. They have a BI conversion currently on sale at £31.20. Hannants probably have it or can obtain it if you prefer to shop in person

The T.1’s won’t be rebuilt as T.2’s . The T.1’s have a while left in service yet!

    What, like Harriers?

I don’t suppose many people- including me- knew there was a difference.

    What is it? Any photos?

I’ve discussed this with a couple of militaria collectors they went through the same thing some years ago the prices rose until they were no longer sustainable then collapsed.

This situation isn’t really great for people with established collections because they will need to fill gaps and to grow their collections. They will already have the “mundane” items so it will hit them disproportionately harder. It definitely does put off new entrants to the collecting/preservation area. I know this from conversations I’ve had with some potential newbies.

Part of the problem is well known ebay dealers demanding high prices for items that don’t sell and keep reappearing at the same prices. The dealers don’t take the hint and the prices raise expectations of other sellers to unrealistic levels. They sometimes claim that they need to do this to make a living. I’d dispute that – if they really wanted to make a living they’d need cash not stock sitting on shelves due to high prices. Part of my previous job was dealing with liquidations and around 90% of them were making a profit but had no cash so couldn’t pay creditors. Tesco and others “pile it high and sell it cheap” to make lots of livings. I accept that this stuff can’t be piled high but it could be turned over more quickly if it was much cheaper and demand would increase. The stock is out there as anyone who attended the Newark Aeroboot at the end of last year could have seen.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Christian Brothers.

Almost no idea what was being said but the songs are good, interesting scenes in London and Katrina Kaif in Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Although the modelling tent is run by MAFVA the clubs range from independents to branches of all model societies. I went to this show two years ago with my branch of IPMS and the branch went last year too.

We had a really good time the arena displays were excellent, even the naval element was covered by a U-Boat that had managed to surface in a field but there was little or no aviation content and the show sorely needs it. Don’t worry about it being too serious like similar events, one ad hoc arena item that will stay in my memory for ever was a shot out between some German soldiers and some cowboys. That said, there’s obviously a lot of attention paid to trying to be accurate. As to Gokone’s main concern about these events the toilets were plenty and clean.

We keep complaining about the lack of young people coming into aviation preservation, with the families attending this is a chance to remedy the situation so get off your bums and bring something to the event. I’d guess that if you don’t have a cockpit but can still mount some sort of display they’d be happy to give it room, drop Alf a line.

It’s not too far for me, the past couple have been OK, as you say the museum is always worth it.

The Cobham Bus Museum on the site is well worth a look too. Even if you aren’t interested in buses is an example of what can be done.

Could you post a link direct to the Aeroboot sellers list please?

I’ve been looking all over the site, don’t doubt it’s there but I can’t find it.

I guess they didn’t know there is the Science museum in London with a quite famous Vimy!!

I wouldn’t include the Science Museum in South Ken because unless it’s changed since my last visit it’s far too dark and while it might be very arty some of the exhibits are too high to see properly.

In the fifties at Biggin Hill at Home days, you could pay half a crown (12.5p) to sit in a Meteor cockpit and let loose with the Hispanos. There must have been some sort of bullet stop but if that had failed, as some have been known to, the shells would have crossed the main road separating the married quarters garages and Sergeants and Officers messes from the main camp.

Thanks for the info. We have the paint codes (though there seems to be all sorts of arguments about what colour ‘sky’ actually is) and we have the book. Problem is that there must be a dozen different schemes represented in there so which one is correct for DP872? Woe betide us if we get it wrong.

Paint it in whatever scheme you like with acrylics. When the obligatory post event smart a**se turns up with evidence of the correct scheme wash the paint off with meths and use proper paint in the correct colours and pattern.

Can anyone explain to me how the new automatic bid facility on evilbay is any different to just putting in a bid at the amount you are happy with?

I’ve lost a few things because the pop up for automatic bidding gets in the way and won’t go away.
