That date is a bit of a worry.

I heard that the date of Cockpitfest might be changed to avoid a clash with a festival, it could now clash with Kenley.

It was, and maybe still is, Grauniad, from Private Eye

I’ll be going as it’s very close to me, and also the head quarters of Anne Summers if anyone’s interested.

There’s been a regular autojumble there for some time, this is being tacked on the end of that, hopefully it will be good.Alastair also runs the Croydon Aerojumble.

“To be so vivid and fresh, it must have been shot down last week “

Not only that, it’s a post war roundel. Was it shot down in the Korean War?

Might well be but that only means you can’t change them, doesn’t stop you letting them fall down

My Father trained on Ansons. If the pilot wanted to use the pee tube he would give control to one of the pupils. Someone found out that if you gently moved the column backwards and forwards at one point the air blew back up the tube with obvious results.

Re the comment about about not flushing the toilet in a station, I was at a station in India a couple of years ago and had to explain to the person with me that the little piles and splodges on the track were exactly what they looked, and smelled, like.

I have a huge amount of loft trophies that I would display if I had the ability but not being able to drive makes it difficult. That said, they do go out now and again, I’ve loaned a late 30s/early 40s set of flying clothing to a school in Norfolk. I loaned some panels for copying to someone in Germany, the first lot came back but the second lot never did.

However. Imminent old age and health issues have made it clear that I need to start looking at disposal. Some of it can go on evilbay with no worries but some “groupings” were sold to me very cheaply on the basis that I wouldn’t split them up and sell the items separately, these are causing me some pain. What do I do with them to be as sure as I can that they will remain together? Museums won’t pay me the cost of them. To take an extreme example, one group is a pilot’s life story, all his uniforms, his log books, medals, flying suits, trophies, souvenirs, photos, even his school reports. if you have principles this all becomes very difficult. I don’t want to give the stuff away becasue that will deprive my family of money that might otherwise have been spent on them.

There are more at Sundridge and Eastchurch. I think those at Sundridge are in danger.

I had many happy days at Hanningfields, all the stuff mentioned here plus some wheels allegedly off a Demon but definitely pre war of about that size. Several Victors and Vulcans and the gun pod of the Canberra B(I)8 now preserved in Germany sans gun pod. Lots of AFVs and vehicles too. If I can find some photos I’ll try to scan them in and post them. XH980 mentioned by Tony was typical of what often happened there. That and the Stafford Javelin were scrapped at Hanningfileds but bth were the subjects of requests for them from museums. In botth cases Steve and Graham hung on as long as they could but no one from the museums did anything concrete so both were scrapped. I have some panels from the cockpit of XH980 removed minutes before the hydraulic cutter started work on it, long way from being rotten, they just looked bad having been painted grey while at West Raynham. Steve never mentioned XR219 and I’m sure he would have if he’d had it. He did clear some stuff from Shoeburyness and mentioned seeing a complete TSR2 in one of the sheds while XR219 was outside being shot at.

Going by the commentary on the Saturday it was intended. Following the “tradition” of closing the show with a solitary SPitfire

Was just explaining to my wife about Ray when he was mentioned by the commentator.

Re post 18, the aim of the advert is to raise awareness, so it has acheieved its aims. They don’t care what you say as long as it’s in your mind next time you go looking for insurance, gas, electric or whatever

    Why Tax related?

Internal investigation, could just be procedural
