There’s a photo of Twilight Tear at Fighter Rebuilders in this thread on Wix

“Provence Fighter Sales”? A new operation in Southern France? It really serves no purpose to witter on about whether/when Twilight Tear will be sold. Irrespective of how attached any of us are to this lovely aeroplane it’s entirely up to her owner.

Yes, and you need to get out more.

    Kind regards, JJ.

[QUOTE=markstringer;1199994]Are you suggesting that they are going to sell it JJ?[/QUOTE,

    Hi markstringer,

Well there was the small case of giving a lot of tender loving care then parting
with the P-51B an aircraft which most of us who watch the TFC with much pleasure, thought we would be watching it for many years to come, but that
did not last long. I hope the TT stays with us for many years to come but
at the right time and price anything could happen.
I think we all forget sometimes that although we go down to Duxford to see
these great restored aircraft, at the end of the day the owners can do what
they like with their kit we have no say in it, but we I think have a right to be
down hearted though when things move on.
And TFC aircraft move on like two hurricanes is it ? 2 Mustangs ? and others
but again the buck stops with the owner. All I am saying is I and others would
not get to close to it just in case it moves on.

    Regards JJ.

Hi all, and Happy New Year
When is P-51 ‘Twilight Tear’ due back from the US after the rebuild?
Answers like ‘when its ready’ will be rejected:p …….rough estimates welcomed.

Hi the Bump, I will be surprised if its back by this Autumn. They are having
a good look at the wings or so I heard, because they have never been looked at in detail. If they don’t find anything bad my guess is it will be back around
September. Also keep your eye on provence fighter sales at the same time.

    The other He.111.

Can anyone give me the low-down on the He111 that is/was at Duxford?
Haven’t heard about it for a while – Is it still there? Restoration plans? Where’s it destined to end up?

    Thanks in advance.

    Rich.

    Hi Rich82,

Whilst we are on the subject of He 111s, where are the remains gone of the He 111 which was put out grass at the end of Duxfords runway at the Tank
Museums end of the field ? some years ago. Scrapped or stored in the vaults
of some secret shed being watched over by Bobs Brother.

It’s the Imperial War Museum not Disneyland! The 109 is displayed like that because it’s portraying the end result of her last encounter with the RAF. There are plenty of ex Russian 109’s which could be put back in the air at a price.

Well I never did, and another thing, the bloke standing guard over it is the most anti-social miserable bleeder I have ever had the misfortune to come
across, never ever say’s a word, yeah real Disneyland material if ever I saw it.

    Crashed 109E.

interesting idea with the 109, i quite like the way its displayed at the moment though, i suppose not everyones cup of tea 🙂

    Hi Nashio966,

Very true, maybe they could have a wheels- down one year (with un-bent prop), then a wheels-up back to field scene the following year. Then again maybe not.

    He 111.

It was moved into the restoration hanger a couple of months ago so i hope that means it’s next in line for a full restoration.

I know its really a Spanish CASA but I’d like to see it in German markings, maybe those it had for the filming of BoB, that way no one can see it’s not authentic!! Would look great along side the 109 and JU52 in the Battle of Britain display.

Pic of it before it was moved here http://s110605900.websitehome.co.uk/hangar-5/yh2-10.htm

    Peter

Hi PeterW, And you know what would be even better, the Ju52 and 109E
outside with the He 111 against those big green lovable hanger-doors, great backgrounds
to get a cameo shot. Of course they would have to rescue the 109E from that crashed enermy aircraft in a field somewhere in England scene, with its
sad bent prop and wheels-up display. How about putting it back on its feet
and pushing it out the hanger now and again. Maybe have your photo taken
in it for a modest fee like the Fw 190 this year for worthy causes.
    Just a thought.

    Wanted for 2008

    Hi Everyone,

I would like for 2008 in writing the Green-light for the re-start of Mildenhall
and show these extremists no Glory in the media, because as I see it, thats
were they draw their power from media over-kill. Bring on the Ham Burgers and Buds again, ah that smell along the flightline.

Have a Good New Years night and hope 2008 proves to be airshow-wise a
cracker with everything turning up that is reported as due for the season.

    Regards to you all, JJ.

I have a couple of local history books but can’t recal anything about a V1 bomb landing on Reeds, the Hope & Anchor pub which looks out onto Reeds has some history plastered on the walls so I will have a look next time I am in.

Might be a good idea for me to have a yarn with some of the more mature locals around here, maybe they can shed some light, for now I will have a dig in those books.

    John.

    Hi John,

Yes please do ask around the locals, you never know what might come up.
The conversation we had at one stage did state that it failed to explode.

    Many thanks, Gary, JJ.

    Forgot about this

    Saturday, 23rd/Sunday, 24th December 1944 N1939

A special unit of Heinkel 111s was assembled in June 1944. It was formed to carry V1s or Buzz Bombs as they were called, thus adding 400 miles to their 150 mile range, then being able to bomb northern industrial targets without having to risk precious manned aircraft over land.

On this Christmas Eve, between 05.00 and 06.00, forty-five Heinkels of the special unit launched its attack on Manchester from some 40 miles off the east coast between Skegness and Mablethorpe. Thirty-one V1s crossed the coast and about half fell within 20 miles of the intended target, but some landed in Yorkshire, they include one that fell at Barmby Moor near Pocklington at 05.50, one that fell at Willerby on the western outskirts of Hull at 05.45 and another that landed in the mud just off Reads Island in the Humber Estuary, and yet another that fell at South Cliffe near Beverly. Three went badly astray, one landed in Shropshire, one in Northamptonshire and the third landed in Tudhoe, at 06.05, 170 miles off track, but not 20 miles from Newcastle!!

06.05.. Co Durham.. Eleven people were injured when a V1 landed on the cricket field at Tudhoe, the pavilion was destroyed. There was severe damage to 22 houses and slight damage to 368 other houses, a C of E Vicarage and nearby Catholic Church and orphanage were also damaged.

Hull.. Hull was on the route for a number of flying bombs destined for Manchester. One of these dropped on the outskirts of the city, in a field, the only damage being to windows and roofs, from blast. The event was an untimely one from the point of view of the householders who had to patch up their property in time for Christmas. It took more than six months to repair damage caused by this bomb. which was extensive. The Springhead pumping station was also damaged.

    Hi there RAF Millom,

Thanks for that, I have looked at the Earth Google shot of the Island and there does not seem to have been a hole, however I will check with locals
and Reps at East Kirkby, as they do stock some Goxhill relics and may know
something. I feel that it may have been blown-up as a danger to shipping
in the Humber, but hey who knows.

    Thanks for that. Gary, JJ.

Everyone did their bit to keep this a free country. Ernie did his bit, as did everyone else during the war. I thank you.

    Rest in piece Ernie.

Hi Jamie, thanks for your post, One thing that I have logged from all who have
posted a word on the subject, is that we are all on the same wave-length as
Ernie and the crews were, and those ground-crew and pilots are still at it now.
Did you see the Video-post on this thread by Seafuryfan ?
