Well I live about a mile away from the Motorway Police Headquarters at Almondsbury.(Blackrats as they are affectionately called) I see them most days at our local Tesco Metro buying shopping. First their vehicles. They are BMW 3 series estates both marked and unmarked all new and immaculately clean they also drive X5’s The latest one I have seen is a black3 series estate with blacked out windows which looks like a firearms vehicle again new and would do credit to a drugs dealer! If you are on the M5/M4 interchange look out for a silver grey Skoda with lots of aerials poking out the roof and take your foot off the gas! Next the officers. What can I say about this lot. Let me start at the top and work down. Head shaved,Raybans even if its raining perpetual scowl. Tshirt, stab proof vest at least two radios, belt kit with lots of jolly useful bits dangling off it. Combat trousers with lots of pockets.Glock Pistol and nice big combat boots(usually in need of a clean.

“Tip of the day” Do not approach these people as it is beneath them to have a conversation or pass the time of day with them.

    Avon and Somerset Constabulary slogan

‘working together to make the community of Avon and Somerset feel safe and be safe’.

    Yeh Right!

    They even screwed up there!

I am more interested in Russia and China’s position on Syria at the moment. As for Iran I think Israel will solve that if they get to close to making a viable nuclear weapon. J-20 Hotdog I think you have summed that up pretty well there. Paul in the UK(Far enough away not to here the bang if it happens!)

I think Johnny Kavanagh has made some very good points here. Some years ago the National Railway Museum at York had a shake up regarding exhibits and returning some locomotives to steam. That was all going to be all gloom and doom, and it would all go to pot. IMO that never happened. In an ideal world with bucketfulls of cash we could keep everything but that will not happen. In the UK we have a very vibrant preservation movement on most things mainly thanks to the unsung people who struggle to remember and keep the past alive on very little money.
As for giving exhibits away that no longer fit the policy or there is not the space for them I am opposed to that unless whoever wants them can make a strong case for taking care of them and can prove they have the finances for their restoration and upkeep. I would rather see them sold for the best price possible and the revenue ploughed back into what remains.
As for the Phantoms I would keep the one that saw service in the UK and dispose of the other. I don’t think we can justify having all of the models in all of the sizes or we would need an area the size of Wembly(the borough not the stadium) The German and any WW2 aircraft should stay as they are part of our history.

    Edit..

One day you may need these people that are keeping you safe and sound Tornado and risking their lives for a pittance, you should bow your head not in respect, but in shame.

Thankyou Tony a far more eloquent reply than I could muster at the moment!
