The reports never said the Ye-152A was granted building rights license to the Chinese, if Belyakov did not mention it is becasue there was not such a deal of such nature, what was tranferered was data not the aircraft he did not mentioned it because Russia never granted Production of the Ye-152 to the Chinese so there were no variants build out of Russia legally speaking , the opposite is sending documentation on the Ye-152A that is completly different and that to my point it`s very likely that the Russian send documents . The only reason you give a blueprint to someone is when you have given a building rights license. A blueprint is after all, the plans to BUILD the thing.
The YE-166 and the YE-152 are pretty much the same. The R-15 was the original engine planned for the project, and the twin R-11s were only used as temporary substitute. Thus the aft of the YE-152 is much more rounded than the J-8. The J-8’s fuselage goes from tapered round, and graduates to an oval cross section, something the YE-152 does not attempt.
Arthur, just close the thread. The problem of this Flogger guy is unique; this guy has an obvious screw loose in his head. I mean like what he did in the CDF, with 44+ pages of a thread full of Flogger pics. I mean what kind of a person does that? I will say i gave you links i did not make them or invented them, The J-8 has Russian engines, if the report is right the airframe was based in the Ye-152 data and in J-7, and the aft fuselage in the J-8 is quit similar to the Ye-152, what you forget to mention is the fact that the Q-5 the Chinese built under license the whole aircraft and the Ye-152 they only got the data and that is the difference.

Look at the aft fuselage of the J-8 and the YE-152. LOOK. Like everything you like to jump on superficial appearances. The AFT fuselages are even more different than the forward. They are very different from each other. The J-8 is more oval, black and unpainted, and it has a lip between the nozzles. The YE-152 is much more rounded, it is painted right to the end, and it does not have the lip.
Compare this to the butt of the J-8s on top. LOOK.

Hakodate is in Hokkaido. Kadena is in Okinawa. The last place a Russian pilot would try to defect to would be in Okinawa, since you have to fly over Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu—the entire length of Japan—before you get to Okinawa, which is semi tropical.
If you want to defect from Russia, the closest point from Siberia would be Hokkaido.
Why don’t you explain to us what really J-8 can do that J-7 can’t and why is the Chinese useed that afford to build two engines J-7? Beside two engines, what are the differences between J-8 and J-7 in terms of avionic, technologies, performance etc?

The J-8 was designed to fly faster and farther than the J-7, and to be equipped with a radar that can shoot BVR missiles. The J-7 is more like a point defense interceptor, but the J-8 was meant more like a theatre interceptor. That sort of thinking began to develop from the sixties as a defense against nuclear bombers, then died when the Cold War ended.
Crobato the Ye-152 was designed with Russian specifications, the J-8 with Chinese defense specifications, was the F-2 designed with American specifications? or the Kfir with French ones? is the Atlas Cheetah designed with Israeli specifications or the Chilean Pantera with South African ones? even the Q-5 Fantan was designed with Chinese specifications since the Chinese need it something different than the original MiG-19, that is a very easy and logical answer.
The Japanese F-2 still used a lot F-16 parts directly. The Cheetah and the Kfir is still based on the Mirage III airframe directly. So was the Pantera. The Q-5 Fantan is still the MiG-19 behind the cockpit all the way to the tail. Mostly unchanged. Different specifications does not change anything.

Why would the Chinese modify a design that works right? Yes, the design did work right, well enough to be seriously considered for operational use until superceded by more advanced specifications. The PL-8 which was a copy of the Python 3, remained virtually a copy. The PL-4/6/10/11 all remained virtual copies of the Sparrow and Aspide.
The Chinese are smart. They would not change a design that isn’t BROKEN.

Look at the J-7E. That’s the MiG-21 adapted to the Chinese own use. Did it have a significant fuselage change? NO. The fuselage is still the MiG-21F. They changed the wing, the electronics and the engine. But the fuselage is still directly the MiG-21F.
Look at the FTC-2000 trainer. Behind the cockpit and the wings, you can still see it’s still a MiG-21.
You cannot distinguish what is truly a copy and what is indigenous. It’s all because of your pride and obsessession wanting to connect the Russian projects to the J-8, when all the evidence, circumstances and logic says otherwise.

Pure bullcrap. The YE-152 jet was being developed into an operational fighter. Just because it didn’t reach operational service does not make it so. If the Chinese got the blueprints they would have made use of the investment by copying it directly and speed up the development process. Why learn from the blueprint then went ahead and go make a different design when someone has totally well worked out tedious calculations which are staring at you right in the face? Can you explain to me that? You don’t have any rational explanations at all, just cobbling fragile and nonsensible arguments here and there.
There is nothing in the J-8I that I do not find that is operationally better in combat or design compared to the YE-152 that would make the Chinese deliberately change the design of the YE-152. And if they did, there is no sensible reason behind that. Both planes are just two different and parallel approaches to the same problem.

Bullsh*t. Have you ever seen any kind of blue prints? They are detailed in the measurements, numbers and specs of any part given. And that goes back for ages. Even when people design sailing ships in the age of sail, they are quite detailed on sizes and measurements.

That’s crap. That’s not how engineers work. You cannot adapt someone else’s calculations to reform it into your own basis. Especially considering the vast differences of the two aircraft’s structural lengths, design and diameter of frontal fuselage, internal fuel locations, and structural spine.

If the Chinese had the YE-152, it would have been a straight copy, or it invalidates the very intention of trying to make a copy itself which is to skip all the reengineering and headwork.
I think the -23-98 might have the HMS but there was no takers in that configuration. The HMS for the MLD is a surprise to hear as I never heard that before.

And you’re wrong—the J-8 fuselage has a more slender design especially in front of the engine. You are contradicting yourself again, the larger diameter of the YE-152 comes from its radar.
The Ching Kuo fighter is NOT a derivative of a previous design. Only that it is designed with American help.

Dimensions do not tell the whole history the Su-27 is considerably smaller than the huge Su-34, and many modifications will alter the size and dimenssions of any aircraft, also you have the same engines so the aircraft will have similar aft fuselage cross section, the cone inlet is smaller due to the J-8 has a smaller SR-4 radar and as the F-18E they could well have added a fuselage plug for new systems or fuel
Yes but Sukhoi also built both aircraft. So it is obvious that the Su-34 would use a lot of experience from the Su-27 because you have common designers. But one cannot say the Su-34 “copied” from the Su-27 because you have the same set of engineers, and all the calculations and measurements have all been internalized in those designers’ heads. This is not true of the YE-152 and J-8.
Dimension changes in the Su-34 has a reason. It is primarily a strke jet not a fighter. Some of the length changes from the radome and the structural part of the aircraft leaves off right when the radome starts. Take the noses off and you see more commonality in sizes. And even if the plane B is derived from plane A, it does not become more slender in the process either. The changes ADD to the existing airframe, not DELETE from it. Even when the MiG-21 evolved from its original version, the fuselage diameters remain basically the same. Same goes with the Hornet->Super Hornet, F-16->F-2.
If you look at the body of the J-8, it’s a lot more slender than the YE-152, which is stouter. The length of the J-8 itself is very long, 2.5 meters longer even without the inlet sticking out on the J-8, while the YE-152 has a big inlet sticking out. At the same time the aft section is not the same.
In the J-8I, they did not design the plane FOR the radar—they designed the radar AFTER the plane. Given that the J-8I can use the same radar as the J-7C/D as the J-8E, you are talking about a radar still as big as the RP-21/Saphir-21/Fast Spin.
