Cheers Colin
Very interesting. Sounds like you may get some good info from the presentation. Is the gentleman concerned Mr R Lamplough? I think he’s into historic race cars also. Will the presentation be a private affair then?

Hi all, I’m new on here.
I work in grove and being interested in most areas of aviation, started searching for info on the Venom the day it arrived.
I came across this thread on a google search. Just wondered if anyone knows more about the aircraft and it’s history. I have found a couple of links with pictures of her at North Weald but thats about it. I am asuming there is no direct link between the aeroplane and the airfield it’s self as she is swiss and the airfield was not active in those days. Grove is an interesting site, just a shame it’s nearly all gone now.
I have some pictures. Do I need to host them on web before putting them on here? Another forum I’m on has an upload centre.
First up,welcome aboard matey
apparantly there is a link(albeit quite tenuous)between RAF Grove and the DH Venom.
I’ve been told by a local historian that post-WW2 RAF Grove was used as a holding point for spare parts for aircraft of 2 TAF RAF Germany(types including the Venom).
At some point in 2008(probably March, but could be April) the gentleman concerned will be visiting my Oxfordshire Aviation Group in Didcot to give a presentation on RAF Grove…so here’s hoping more could be revealed then
cheers
Colin
Just for a change, next year lets have an average wind strength of under 30 knots!
Sorry , but it is embarrasing to need wing walkers three years in a row!
I actually can usually taxi straight you know.
I’ll see what I can do……;)
Cheers mate…………
like I say early days yet.
Having said that if & when,it will be posted here
Colin

Indeed a truely nice, friendly, genuine bloke….long may he continue to manage Popham in the enthusiast-friendly way he does.
He also does a superb talk/presentation on the Strathallan Lanc to aviation enthusiast groups….as witnessed by OAG 5-6 years ago
Colin
Lovely turning fly-by from the Dc-6 over Didcot shortly before 1330hrs today…..swept in from the north, departed to the south east(Shoreham maybe????)
Colin
Ah.. I knew I’d heard of it (from my days in Didcot it turns out)
Moggy
That’ll be right…..about 8 or so miles away.
At the risk of going off-topic did you live or were you working in Didcot, and if so where-abouts??
The ol’ town will have changed a bit since your days I dare say
Colin
Where’s Uffington?
Moggy
Sorry mate, should have made that a bit clearer.
Uffington is a small village about 4 miles south(ish) of Wantage,Oxfordshire just under the White Horse Hill
Colin
Guilty as charged!
One of the events we attended this weekend was a barbie at Peter Vallances Gatwick Aviation Museum on Saturday evening. They had the Shack running beautifully on all four engines. Well worth the long trip!
See pics:
They were also at the White Horse Show at Uffington, near Wantage,Oxon on Monday.
Very impressive display…and good to meet you guys
Colin
Quite an interesting day in the skies over Didcot(for a change)
Had a Tiger Moth go over this afternoon heading south(-ish)….
At the other end of the aviation spectrum this evening were three Eurofighter Typhoons holding off for,I believe, a flypast at the closure of RAF Bentley Priory
Colin
Nice photos matey…..
will she be on display at any of the remaining Kemblre events this year
Colin
