Can you expand a little on what projects you are planning?
Just found this thread and its link to the 677 restoration.
I flew XV677 as a Pilot serving with 706 NAS on the following dates in 1979.
Sept 8th, 17th (twice night flying) & Nov 9th.
I have looked through my personal photos but do not have any of her although I think I have some MoD Sea King photos in the loft somewhere!!
As I now live not too far from Doncaster, reckon I will pay a visit for old times sake!
Good luck with the venture!
OK thanks for that Consul……yes….I meant Church Fenton, not Linton!
Ginger Lacey is something of a local hero in these parts – Knaresborough in North Yorkshire.
He attended our secondary school, King James’s and there is a fine tribute to him on the wall of the school reception area
Checked my log book to find I flew XV712 on three occasions – total 5 hours -September-November 1979.
In the “classic” red/white/blue roundel with white code letter scheme of course!!;)
Bulldog XX552
This aircraft served with Southampton UAS. I flew her 8 times between Jan 1975 and Nov 1976 mainly from Hamble Airfield.:)
Come on…who’s first with a picture….or video:)
Event at Bruntingthorpe May 30th
What arrangements are there (if any) for visitors to fly in to this event in their own aircraft?
Love the shot of the Scampton Officers Mess dining room….complete with cigarette smoke cloud hovering above the diners.
Wonderfully non-PC !
In my yoof we used to “visit” the Hastings TG527 (?) on the fire dump at RAF Abingdon. Liberated quite a few bits and pieces before she was severely burnt up:(
My best bit was the H aerial which was located on the right hand side of the nose below the co-pilots window. You can see it clearly on the NAM image on the link above. Sat in my parents garden shed for years!
The Hastings was replaced in the early 70’s by a Shackleton Mk3. Ended up lifting most of the instrument panel – minus instruments.
Ah happy days.
What is the status of the Beaufighter (?) lurking in the background?
Fascinating pictures.
Can anyone supply the reg of the Gazelles in the main museum and reserve collection?
I wore gloves when flying in the military and still do so today.
As a previous poster said, the ability to operate the aircraft during a fire/heat emergency could be critical. Also you may need to extract passengers quickly.
For info
I did the Flying Grading course at Plymouth April 24 – May 11 1978 inc and flew WK634 WP856 WB575 (solo) & WP801.
WB575 is alive and well regisitered/Flying in France!
No piccies I’m afraid.
Greenham -late 70’s
Whenever the subject of the “good old days” at RIAT is discussed, there is a consensus that nothing will ever come close to those “cold war” shows at Greenham in the late 70’s -1979 being highlighted in particular.
I would add my own voice to this.
However, it would be of interest if someone could post the ACTUAL show participants, both (S) and (F) and let everyone judge for themselves.
There must be someone out there with notes about the shows. You never know, it may not have been all that we think – a case of selective memory?
Lets see?
