It was actually a P51B. 2Lt John Allen baled out of 42-106919 following engine failure on 18th June 1944 on a training flight. He was serving with 368th F/Sqn ~ 359th F/Grp at East Wretham. He was killed shortly afterwards on 8th August after being by flak near Dreux.

If you find the Canadian version of the programme then that will have 3 Spitfire recoveries – AD189 at Crewkerne features in that version but wasn’t Irish enough for the UK one.

I think that this has already been covered on another thread but anyway it’s the collision of 2 RAF Mustangs of 126 Sqn on 23rd March 1945, FZ122 and KH546, that’s referred to on the Stanhoe website.
