I used to hate Spitfire as I only ever had the bottled that people seemed to think was appropriate for someone with an interest in aircraft. Then, on a trip South, I tried the draught. Whaaay!

    Moggy

Pity about Fremlins. Long gone I suppose? I always used to imagine it was what BoB pilots drank.

Oh, it’s all about the draught Moggy! I don’t mind Spitfire in a bottle but on tap is definately better. 😀
Yes, it’s a shame about Fremlins. I was there earlier this week – I assume you know there is a massive shopping complex on the original site now? – and parked in the new House of Fraser multi story. Walking out of the Car park entrance on Earl Street side they have kept the main Breweries Gates with the Elephant carving in the stone. Can’t imagine what the place used to look like now with HMV, Topshop etc sprawled over the place like a rash…

Well i’ve just booked advance tickets for both days. I did the same last year and enjoyed the whole experience, camping etc.

    Thanks for the directions Moggy.
By the way… i must also thank you for your recommendations in Ale.
I was in a pub called the Park View in Brighton about 6 months ago and saw a pump with a badge saying ‘Adnams Broadside’. I thought, “where have i heard that name before… oh yes, that Moggy on the old planes forum is practically their marketing director i must give it a whirl!”
Well… there’s no turning back. I’m a firm fan of Kentish Ale, Spitfire being top priority and like to dabble with other brews when possible. After Chailey last year i was left somewhat unimpressed with the Harvey’s Sussex range of brown water. But i am very pleased with Suffolks finest.
So thankyou Moggy, for inadvertantly introducing me to one the finest Ales of the land! 😀

    Ok, here’s the plan.
I’m setting up a forum for my site where you can request skins, and see their Work in Progress hopefully updated every day. How’s that?

I do plan on doing all UK warbird collections…
OFMC are pretty much done, just gotta re-do their Yak.
TFC – have a lot of work to do here
HAC – Hurricane is done, Spitfire will have to wait for a while
RACo – Hurricane is done, Mustang is nearly done.
P.Teichmann – planned Spit and Mustang
Rob Davies – Planned Mustang and Yak11 as Yak3
    Maurice hammond – Mustang Planned
BBMF – both hurricanes done, spitfires will follow soon as well as Dak.
Shuttleworth – Hurricane done, Spitfire soon, Gladiator also to do.
    HFL/ARCo – MK912 done, IAC161 & TD248 planned. RN201 & SM845 postponed until arrival of Mk.14 spitfire.

John Romain flew Ed Russells Hurricane for it’s first flight today
Then he took the Spit up
All in preperation for this weekends Friends and Foes over the falls airshow

That’s great to hear thanks for the headsup!
MK912 is one of my favourite Spitfires, liked it so much i painted my 1/6th scale model in the same colours. It’s good to hear that his Hurricane is up and about again. He has a fine collection over there, especially with that 109E of his, hmmmmm.

    Any pictures Birddog?

Now you’ve just got to do FS versions of all your superb skins 😉

Infact, i am quite tempted. I started skinning back with CFS2. It’s much simpler with IL-2 however, because the map is confined to one 1024×768 1Mb bitmap instead of a series of different skins for each part of the aircraft which is common in the CFS/FS series.

I happen to have a copy of FS2002, i think i’m gonna re-install it and have a fiddle about see what i get up to. I’ll let you know how i get on 😉

I’ve worked on & flown in it when it was at Van Nuys, it had a stick, rudder pedals & throttle in the back when it was here. Seems a shame to remove that stuff as the TFC groundcrew guys could have got some stick time in it 🙁

    I stand corrected!
However, I’d sooner see such a rare bird returned to absolute stock and as safe for the pilot as possible. Just my opinion.

I am led to believe that the “new” insurance rules put the old style nose configuration for this a/c into another insurance catagory (because of weight difference) and thus not financially viable

i understand the early nose is going to be fitted so it can remain in the lower catagory.

That sounds awfully like a large warbird current affairs related joke to me, alas, I would not be surprised if this were the case.

I’m a firm fan of the Mk.IV but if it means keeping the bird in the air where she belongs then so be it. It will also be a good chance to honour all those unfortunate aircrew who perished and served in Blenheim Mk.1’s duing the early days of the war.

No, don’t think it ever had dual control, think it was just a jump seat. This was removed to convert it the aircraft to stock military condition. Also from a safety point of view, the lack of crash pylon (which had been removed previously for the jump seat) could cost the pilot his life if heaven forbid the aircraft tiped over.

I have been eagerly awaiting this aircrafts return to the circuit and i can;t wait to see her flying this July! Well done TFC, and everyone else involved in the project all around the world, superb!!!

    Who is he??

    Who? John Romain?

Head of Aircraft Restoration Co at Duxford, partnered with Historic Flying who make all those lovely Spitfires!

He was also instrumental in the building and flying of the two Blenheims. I believe he started as engineer and through his love of warbirds and technical knowledge started Propshop Ltd (Trading name of ARCo).

I’m sure someone out there knows a lot more than me.

He is a key member of the warbird restoration community and a bl**dy good pilot too! It’s always god to see him whacking up and down DX in RN201 😀

    EDIT:
See here for a small bio on John at the ARCo website –
