Beautiful pictures JBS! Looks like you had a great seat, wish i had gone now, oh well work provailed yet again!
…two sugars please and a chocolate digestive. There’s a good chap. 😉
WOW! thank you crystal lakes and greenskeeper! superb photos, especially the second and third ones. Certainly looks like she moves alright!
From a personal perspective, I’m really glad that his first flight came like this. Flying in a vintage aeroplane like this has a different look, smell, sound and feel to any other kind of flying. Everyone should be made to experience this, in fact for kids it should be part of the national curriculum; “Flying in an old aeroplane”.
Steve, this post has brought back memories! This is exactly how i experienced flight for the first time courtesy of my father. I’m 20 now and i was about 5 at the time! It’s like reading an exact report of my first flight some 15 years later!
Father and son at Duxford, taking to the skies in a DH Dragon Rapide. You are correct; everyone NEEDs to fly in one, it should be law!
Thank you very much Steve for sharing this family event and for replenishing my own memories.
In fact, i might have some photos tucked away in this darned hard drive somewhere….
Yes here we are, i only managed to take one photo! A non descript area of Duxford. lol
lol – thanks, i am sure Flying Legends will offer me all i need!
🙂 🙂 🙂
Yeah, it’s nothing special, but any sight and sound of a merlin makes me break out in a fit of pleasure! Lets just say i need my ‘fix’ often, and i can’t wait until Legends seeing as i missed it last year due to family holiday!!!! argh!
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks Laurent B!
By the wording on some of the news reports i remained hopeful that he might pull through. I am very sad to hear that he has passed away. Judging by the pictures, it would seem that he tried his best to avoid the occupied areas and ultimatley payed the sacrifice. A brave man, rest in peace – you will fly forever now.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.
How about Flying Legends… 2xB-17s and the Connie! that would be lovely. 🙂
Great photos Stieglitz, thanks for sharing them with us!
This is terrible news. Such a beautiful aircraft. I hope the pilot pulls through, my thoughts are with him now.
gimme the paint, i’ll do it for free!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
If there is a Legends meet at Duxford this year, please do me a favour… Have a beer for Neil. I know he would have appreciated that.
Will do Paul. I can’t help feeling slightly sombre at the fact we are all raving that Legends is nearly upon us, yet for you it must be a difficult time.
I will endeavour to raise a pint of finest Spitfire ale for your brother.
My thoughts are with you and your family.
nice – anymore?! please, please 😉

No, but he’s done most, if not all of the DX resident Spitfires and more
Not as many as you think

I’d say that was a fair amount!
Anyway, as i have said it’s only a ‘niggle’ and I feel privilaged everytime i see 434 fly, at least she is airworthy and continuing to satisfy our Spitfire hunger!
No, but he’s done most, if not all of the DX resident Spitfires and more, and a grand job he does too.
To be fair it doesn’t matter who does it, it’s just niggling me.
…. Actually to be totally honest, i’m not too fussed, at least she is flying, that’s the main thing.
Thats great news thanks Stieglitz.
