    mistake?

The Aeroplane heaven model looks absolutely stunning. BUT. Has anyone else noticed that they seem to have built it (a Tr Mk.9) with the smaller oil cooler commonly found on the earlier marque Spitfires.

    http://www.aeroplaneheaven.com/images/HFLIMAGES/simshots/010.jpg

Seems such a silly mistake especially as they have direct access with the full size restoration.

Perhaps someone should tell them that their virtual merlin is gonna boil! :p :p

Yes, ‘over here’ was great, i’ve been wanting to see this repeated on the box for ages. Alas that will never happen i’m sure, not on terrestrial anyway.
I hope it’s available on video somewhere?

    observation, please read (pretty please?)

Although somewhat heated, i can understand where you are coming from Invader. We are very lucky over here, and sometimes we have to pinch ourselves. We must not take what we have for granted!

of course i could see the direction of this thread from the outset…

First wave of posts are directed at how this years show just wont be the same, lacking in aircraft, moan, gripe, etc…

Second wave of posts are from the opposing party directed at how we have to take the rough with the smooth, and this years show will be just as good as any…

Third wave of posts directed at the first wave from the points of view of the people involved in the planning of the show, do you know how much work is put into the show, why aren’t you satisfied etc…

Fourth wave of posts will be directed at ‘us brits’ from fellow international warbird fans saying how we don’t know what we’ve got, if it smacked us in the face, do you know how priviliged you are, i’ve only ever seen one spitfire and that was an airfix kit etc…

Final wave of posts will be everyone apologising for their rash statments from any of the previous post waves, though confined probably to the first and second wave. (because the internationals have hit the nail on the head!) Everyone kisses and makes up. 😉

    Chris’ Final Thought ™
Sorry if this seems like a rant guys, but i hope you understand my early morning rambling and don’t take any of it to heart! I don’t mean to offend, purely enlighten! Just a music students observation of a random thread.
Now everyone give each other a hug and wish all a happy Leg Ends 04! It may be not have the same amount of planes as before, but then again it might! And whatever we do get, we should bloody thankful for, because there was a time when warbirds weren’t as cared for………..

p.s. this entire post can of course be easily combated against with the simple statement: ‘It is a public forum, these issue are meant to be discussed. It is our right dammit!’
    😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

I saw her display at biggin last year. It was a lovely sight but i was surprised at how underpowered it looked. Struggling to get airbourne it seemed.
But i do not recall the routine being very aerobatic, it looked like a well orchestrated slow flat display.
I certainly enjoyed it very much and came to the conclusion that the RNHF had resorted to a simple, effective and safe flat display for her. Therefore i was a little confused when i saw the footage of that fateful day, and seeing it crash as a result of an aerobatic manouvre.
    Terrible shame.

After it crashed they built a completely new fuselage as well, so in a way, there is nothing ‘Spitfire’ in the Spiteful. What I was getting at, was that, what ended up as the Spiteful, was designed to remedy problem spots in the Spitfire. The new wing was designed to increase the wings stiffness, and to try and get a higher critical mach number (which failed!). The new fuselage was designed to improve the deflection shooting view from the cockpit, which in all Spitfire variants up to that time had been rather bad.

The Attacker had the Spiteful wing, and was therefor carrying the Spitfire legacy into the jet age, as the wing was designed as an improved wing for the Spitfire.

To take another aircraft, the Boeing 737. It has had a new fuselage, new engines, new wing, new systems and so on, but is is still a B737. So I think the Spiteful is just as much a Spitfire.

You have obviously read Jeffery Quills superb book ‘Spitfire’.
I finished reading it for the first time last week, although a little slow getting started it developed into another one of those ‘just can’t put it down!’ books much the same as Alex Henshaws ‘Sigh for a Merlin’.

If anyone has not read the above mentioned books, i highly recommend you get down to the library or waterstones now and go get ’em!

Talking of typhoons, i just checked out the official website, all seems to be progressing quite well since i last checked up on the project. Still havent seen one in the flesh. Would be nice to see it in formation with the Tornado, Jaguar, Harrier and Hawk at an airshow to show old and new. Just a thought! Lots of noise.. hmmm.

(thinking perhaps should have posted in Military aircraft forum!)
