Some very nice shots there Dan; GirJet 757-200 is my favourite.

Glad to see you got your priorities right…no 1. girlfriend, no 2. photography!:D

I never did realise that ACE was as good a location for aviation photography.

If there is such interest, perhaps we should arrange a forum meet/holiday out there?

    The story’s not over yet.

Since this was a joint investigation by the UK Department of Trade and the US Department of Justice, BA are now almost certain to be penalised by the US authorities as well.

Indeed your right Grey, as of last night the fine now stands at a staggering £270m, after the US Department of Justice added a further £148m fine onto the £121.5m that the OFT imposed on them.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6925397.stm

    The article does state…

BA now faces the possibility of legal challenges by customers on both sides of the Atlantic who believe they lost money as a result of the collusion.

I assume these costs will also be on-top of the huge fine that they have to pay?

The thing I find most amazing is that when this hold thing came to light, BA denied any involvement/wrong-doing, then it came out with the statement some months on saying that they were putting aside £350m to cover any fine and legal costs…guilty conscience or what?!

So, what happened to the pax on the outbound service to Washington DC, were they taken off the a/c and put on another one? In that link, BA said that both a/c would not be allowed to fly until an investigation was completed.

    Are both a/c still grounded?

Well, I am happy to say that this is easily one of the best sci-fi movie I have seen in quite some time. Micheal Bay did a fantastic job and I do mean fantastic. Shia LaBoeuf was fantastic. He seem to deliver his lines effortlessly and you felt he was having a great time making the movie. And that transcended into his performance. His love interest, on the other hand, not so brilliant but considering the kind of eye candy she was, I didn’t really mind. The rest of the cast did well to support the story.
However, what really blew me away were the special effects. The robots themselves looked real. I’m sorry but I couldn’t find a single thing wrong with any of the incorporation of the FXs onto the actual film. I was completely amazed and I continue to drool to this day.

    Hell yes!

I went to see Transformers yesterday, and can 100% agree to everything that has been quoted above; this film is truly fantastic! The SFX are mind-blowingly awesome!

Dont know why it only got a 1* review in The Times newspaper, this film is easily worth 3, possibly 4*’s in my opinion!:D

Michael Bay certainly is an excellent film director, but did anyone notice a shameless plug for one of his other films (hint: Armageddon)…

Next film on my list to see…The Bourne Ultimatum! The trailer for this film looked very good indeed. I might even be prepared to fork out the extra to see it at The Odeon, Leicester Square if anyone else is interested in going?

    Cool videos.

Would agree with some of the comments that were made at the bottom, suggesting you get rid of the background noise by putting them to some music!:D

Just a quick question about the one taking off from LBA though? Is it me, or did the a/c taxi part way up the runway and then do a 180 degree turn, as I would have seen the bmi A319 out of the window sooner rather than it just coming into view as the FR a/c started its take-off run?

I believe the aircraft is business and premium economy only. Eighteen hours without a break in steerage might just be something of a chore, even with SIA who have one of the better economy cabins.

I read this article as well.

I have never flown to Oz before, and even now I dont think I could do it without needing a break, I only can just manage to do LHR-SFO!

Any airline that decides to offer this and similar services would have to ensure a decent level of onboard service and IFE throughout the flight.

Imagine if one of the toliets broke or got blocked-up…the queues would be massive; or if the IFE system/PTV’s didnt work, it would be a nightmare!

And also what would the crewing situation be like…airlines would need 2, possibly 3 sets of cabin crew per flight wouldn’t they?

Well i was reading a old issue of airports of the world and the article about london city. It said that LCY-LBA was a route that got suspended becuase the route wasn’t profitable. Well i was just thinking now that Yorkshire It’s Self is becoming more Economised and Leeds is playing a “major” part in the tourist industry in yorkshire briningin it back into service. The service could be oparted Twice a day by a ERJ145/135 6 Times a Week given Yorkshire another link with London.

I am not sure that LCY-LBA would work as LCY is primarily used by business travellers, not tourists. I am also not sure there would be enough of a demand to be able to use an ERJ effectively.

I believe that Eastern Airways attempted to do LCY-NCL using a Dornier 328, and that did not work out so they dropped it, so perhaps the same would apply to LBA.

Whilst researching about the Flybe/BACON takeover, I made an interesting discovery regarding the reason why airlines that are in financial trouble are sold for such small sums of money.

Media reports state that it is believed the airline [BA Connect] was sold for the sum of £1. Although not verified, businesses that are losing money are usually sold for a nominal sum in order to indicate a legal transaction has taken place.

    The other interesting thing is…

…as well as writing off some £106 million as “lost” in the sale of BA Connect, BA had to pay Flybe a sum of money to take on the company due to Flybe actually taking on a company that will cost them money rather than make profits for the foreseeable future.

So to get back onto the topic of Alitalia, I was wondering if someone did want to take it on, would the Italian government give the new shareholder/owner money to help the initial take-over period because in the same case as Flybe’s takeover of BACON, it will cost them money rather than make profits for the foreseeable future.

    Just a thought…?

Nice shots there Lance, I think the Kenya Airways is the best.

Do you know what route the United Airlines 744 operates on, I would love to fly on it one-day?

Must be Emirates. They have painted the wheel area on the bottom of their aircraft in red and the Emirates name in white…

I know the below photos are of the A380, but it is purely for demonstration. I am not sure if they have got round to doing any of their A330s yet though!

Jon Maybe you should buy them:D

    James

I’d love to buy them; think I have a spare 66p (1 Euro equivelant!) lying round in my piggy-bank…lol.:D

In all seriousness though, I think Alitalia will (eventually) die an ugly death to be honest because no sane minded person would want to take on such a task with so much baggage!

Maybe FR should consider buying them out, they are always looking for an opportunity to expand their services and they have a big market presence in Italy, seeing as they have bases at Milan, Rome and Pisa.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is an urban myth. The upper deck of 100(SUD), 300 and 400 747’s experience a standing shockwave immediately above them making it a noisier environment than the front of the main cabin.

…I didnt know that it was an urban myth, someone just told me it was quieter, and have continued to recommend the upper deck to passengers for that very reason!

…(except when the gear goes up and down, cor, what a racket that makes!)

Yeah, I will agree to that, very noisey indeed, which is why I assumed the upper deck would be quieter!

What ‘right’ have they over any other passenger to demand who they do and do not sit next to…a classic case of snobbery in my opinion:mad:

If they choose to fly with a scheduled airline, then they have to accept that they are going to be sat with other passengers that they may not know…

Perhaps they should invest in their own private jet…Boeing BBJ or Airbus A319CJ or something!
