I have noticed that STN does not have any services to Greece besides FlyGlobespan’s service to ATH, could this be a suitable airport to operate from?

Quality shots there, I personally think the VS747 is the best shot of the lot, but I also like the tail shot of the FCA aircraft, with the other FCA in the background…well done, and keep up the good work!

Has there been any decision made as to what they are going to call it? There was talk of them re-naming it after a Radio 1 DJ wasn’t there? I sent them an e-mail to suggest potential names, but I haven’t recieved a reply as yet…

Didnt you post before about starting an airline??

Yes, I did post quite a while back bout starting an airline up, but at that time I was unsure of what market and routes I wanted to operate. Now that I have got a better understanding of these factors, I have asked for people’s opinions. If it turned out that I had a negative response, then I would know I would have to re-think my plans.

Are you planning on competing head-on with BA and OA on the LHR-ATH run or routes that don’t currently exist? I know there are lots of charter flights to and from the Greek Isles, but does anyone fly MAN-ATH or LHR/LGW-SKG for instance?

I don’t think that going into competition with two major carriers is the best option for a start-up airline, and I doubt that I would be able to get any decent slots at LHR…

There is a large volume of charter traffic to Greece as it is one of the most popular holiday destinations within Europe, but we were thinking of offering a low-cost service to the island of Crete (Heraklion) to begin with, and then gradually expand out to the mainland and other islands if things were successful!

Does anyone know of any UK airports that have little to no services to/from Greece, and anyone of these that could benefit from a new service?

Other programs I hate are Deal Or No Deal…

Bet you wouldn’t be saying that if you had the chance to win £250,000, just by opening some red boxes…lol.

How can you dislike Deal or No Deal, it is the best game show on TV at the moment…well at least I think it is! Ok, so the novelty of it has worn off a bit, I admit, but that is what happens with any other gameshow. You only need look at Who Wants To Be A Millionaire to see how long that has been running for…

The really annoying thing is that I love it, and my best friend doesn’t, so much so that he likes to call it “Open a box, and burst into tears!”, and he is always willing the contestants on to take the 1p, and as soon as it goes, he turns the tv off in annoyance! 😀

The first airport is I think Blackbushe. I thought the second one was Biggin Hill, but on second thoughts I’m pretty certain it isnt.

Well done, first one is Blackbushe (well at least it looks very similar to the first picture below. Not sure bout second one, but it is defo not Biggin Hill (see second pic!), might be a French airport, perhaps?

One thing people seem to of missed…we are an island, there is plenty of areas that could be used to build a new airport…hence my personal idea would be to close down all the major London airports except LCY (I would keep that open for bizjets and royal flights!) and I would build a huge brand new airport from reclaimed land off the cost of Cornwall…with a high speed rail link (dashed blue line) to connect it to the centre of London, see below!

Can’t see EZY setting up a large base here – LGW and LTN have got it covered, but some routes to places like GVA might not be out of the question one day. The problem with Manston is that it’s right at the extreme of the region, so reduced sphere of influence. If you live in London it’s far easier to get to Heathrow. Likewise Gatwick is very central and for huge numbers of people is only 1 hour away.

Are you saying that you would use a larger, more congested airport that was an hours drive away, even if you had a local airport with a decent range of services? Tbh, I would prefer rather the second option, as it would be hell of alot less stressful!

If you consider that MSE is alot smaller than LGW, it would be quieter and less congested at check-in, and as there is relatively little traffic there at the moment, it would seem an ideal opportunity for the likes of EasyJet, Ryanair or Flybe to set up at least some small services…bearing in mind the whole ‘low-cost’ approch includes the use of secondary airports!

James, can you try and speak to someone from KIA if possible just to see if there are any other airlines that are consider MSE as a potential origin/destination? And also ask them if they would welcome EasyJet or Ryanair, and if not why not?

Yes, I believe you are right…or at least that is what I thought! 😀

Usually, airlines with three letter codes are chartered services (i.e MON, FCA, TCX, XLA) but some of these airlines do offer some scheduled services as well…which would result in them using a 2-letter code.

In particular, I know that First Choice operate scheduled services to Cyprus from LGW, using the prefix ‘DP’…

Hope this is right, and that it helps…

i am also very concerned we are flying to sandford in sept booked with travel city direct but now flying with xla who i believe use air atlanta planes went with them 2 years ago and it was very poor i was hopeing they have got their act together but other forums are saying planes still old and shabby and delays are the norm

XLA owns Travel City Direct, don’t they? I get so :confused: nowadays

Anyways, whether they own them or not, I have never had the pleasure of flying with them, and tbh I would rather pay the extra to fly with a scheduled airline for any long-haul journey as quality on charter airlines is no way near as good as something like BA or Virgin’s service.

Well that is a good site to see, glad to see the airport is finally being used for something. As I have always maintained, I think the airport has got real good potential to become the next best airport for the South-East after LGW.

I wonder if the likes of Easyjet or Ryanair will consider setting up a base to offer low-cost services out of MSE? I can quite easily see an FR service to Dublin, Shannon and Cork. I can also see EZY services to France, Germany and Italy but not sure if there is a market for further a field?

Keep us informed James, as I am very interested to know how things pan out…!
