I must say that has to be best bunch of photos from London City I have ever seen, well done and thanks for sharing!:)

Alitalia’s E190 certainly looks really smart…it would be nice to see at LHR instead of A320 family aircraft all the time!

I too agree the SkyWork livery is really nice on the Dash 8; but not so keen on their Dornier!;)

Nice to see a full on picture of BA’s new Saab 2000 a/c; I know it’s leased from T3, but the BA livery suits it!

No Tommy, they have all gradually been replaced with Embraer E-Jets.

Interestingly, they are leasing a Saab 2000 from Eastern Airways on a long term basis in order to operate the LCY-IOM flights from 25th June…and the aircraft will be painted in full BA CityFlyer livery, which will be quite an interesting sight!

EDIT: Just found this photo of when it was rolled out the paint shop in Eindhoven!:

    Great shots, well done.

The SkyWork Dornier 328 is my favourite one.:)

Seems like you had much better luck at HAM than me when I went earlier this year…I was flying back to LHR on a Sunday evening with LH, and seeing as most shops were closed in the city, I opted to head to the airport really early to do some spotting/photography. Just as I got to the airport, the heavens opened and it stayed like that for the next 6hrs…:(:o

Wow! Some amazing pics there, well done and thanks for sharing.

I particularily like the special “British” livery applied to XX278 of the Red Arrows fleet.:)

Just out of interest, how were the crew on each of your flights?

When I am travelling, it’s all about the people that serve me that takes priority over anything else, and although I refrain from using BA myself, I did wonder with BA’s new “To Fly. To Serve” slogan if they were any good, but you did not really mention anything about them?

I agree with what you say about the drinks…thimble-sized cans are not good; even EasyJet offer a full-sized can, and although they do charge you £1.75 for it, I didn’t begrudge paying them that much when I flew with them to/from Tenerife last week because I had managed to make a bit of a saving on the total cost of the flights…I paid £331 in total for two people, inc. Speedy Boardng, and yet BA wanted £375pp and that involved a 4hr layover in MAD on each journey!:D

Did they run out of the light blue colour paint, as that darker blue bit towards the rear really doesn’t do it justice. If it were all one colour I think I would look on it a bit more favourably, but that darker blue bit just appears to be “lost” imho.

Blimey, I can’t quite actually believe this, I find myself agreeing with both Bmused55 and kevinwm in the same thread about BA…something must be wrong here!?:D

kevinwm, I too am pleased that BA have decide to paint some of their aircraft for the Olympics, but at the end of the day if your going to paint an aircraft to celebrate/market a particular event, then it would be useful if the design you choose to paint on the aircraft is representative of the event, no?

I don’t think its a case of “Dammed if you don’t Dammed if you do”…I think its more down to people’s individual perception, but it is clear from most of the responses on this thread that this particular scheme does not represent BA and/or the Olympics in the best light.

I am also somewhat surprised and disappointed that other airlines, notably Virgin, appear to not have taken up the opportunity to do the same/similar, or have even made any kind of effort to make themselves visible as a “carrier of/for the Olympics”…does anyone know if they are planning anything special at all?

    Thanks for the info joemicroman.

As I suspected, BA have chosen only to do A319s simply because it’s easier and cheaper for them…well, at least people in the UK/Europe might get the message that the largest sporting event in the world is being held in London; mind you, perhaps they won’t if the rest of the liveries are as bad as this first attempt!

    What did he hit though?

I can’t make out what he hit or am I just getting old ?:(

If you look very closely at the image…just below the bottom of the car near the front, you can just about see the rising bollards are slightly raised, the front is resting on the top of the bollards!

My question though, if that’s a police car where are it’s blue lights, there are none on the roof, that I can see?!

    Below is a “Police” car:

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, as driven by the Italian State Police!

Firstly and foremostly, I would like to congratulate the artist for getting a livery design painted onto an actual aircraft, I bet they must have felt so happy/proud to see their creation actually become a reality (I wonder if BA allowed them to travel on the first revenue flight of their new “logojet”?).

That said, I do have to agree with Bmused55 when he says that “this livery is a big fat FAIL”, simply because it bears no relevance to the Olympics whatsoever, and it does not represent British Airways any clearer as the “official airline” of the event, but I would put this more down to the decision making process and judging rather than blame BA themselves.

A few questions that I have thought of…

Is this the first in a series of “special” livery designs; are there more to come and if so, when will they be revealed?

Are other aircraft in the BA fleet (i.e. 747’s 767’s &/or 777’s) going to be painted into these “special” schemes at all?

Despite being held in one location, the Olympics is a global event with many countries/cultures taking part and I think it would be a mistake on BA’s part to simply choose to paint A320 family aircraft into these “special” designs, because they are smaller and cheaper to paint than some of their long-haul fleet that fly all over the world.

    All international flights suspended…

It has been confirmed today that all international flights, including those to London Heathrow, are going to be dropped…

    From TravelMole.com

    21 March 2012

Debt-laden airline suspends all international flights

Indian airline Kingfisher will drop its services between the UK and India on April 10, it confirmed yesterday.

The cash-strapped carrier announced it was suspending all international operations to eight overseas cities – including London Heathrow – and reducing its domestic flights to give it time to come up with a rescue plan.

Following a meeting with owner, liquor billionaire Vijay Mallya yesterday, India’s aviation authorities decided not to suspend the airline’s licence but they say they are monitoring the situation. Kingfisher is believed to have run up a debt of £900m and it has been struggling to keep flying since banks refused to lend it more cash.

Kingfisher will reduce its domestic operation to no more than 125 flights a day, which is less than half the number it had October, but Mallya admitted this was no more than a “a holding plan”.

“The problem is in the last two to three months, he’s given so many plans and he’s not adhered to any of them,” India’s aviation minister Ajit Singh told reporters in New Delhi yesterday.

Kingfisher shares fell 5.5% on the news to their lowest level since it began trading.

Am not at all surprised by this decision to be honest, with the amount of competition from 9W, AI, BA & VS all flying out of LHR, IT were very much a little fish in a huge pond!

This decision not only has consequences for them though…the company I work for are/were the appointed ground handlers for IT flights @ LHR!:(

    Sad news.:(

    For Immediate Release

REDjet Announcement –from CEO Ian Burns

The shareholders and staff of REDjet wish to sincerely thank all our passengers and supporters for enabling our airline to achieve the tremendous feat of breaking the high fare experience of many Caribbean passengers, while increasing regional travel numbers for the first time in decades.

We at REDjet set out to deliver the Caribbean’s first affordable air service and we have successfully launched a small number of routes that have in their performance, demonstrated the necessity and popularity for a low fares service in the region.

Our aircraft and our dedicated staff are performing extremely well and we are willing and able to continue to provide affordable transport across the Caribbean and beyond but we cannot.

Unlike the heavily subsidised airlines that serve the region, REDjet does not receive any assistance. As indicated, REDjet is hopeful that we will be given a small part of the State assistance others receive, as it will allow us to get our recently approved and exciting new routes established and profitable. Once this happens, our shareholders and staff will do their utmost to see that there is no return to high fares and business as usual.

We have seen other carriers drastically cut their fares in an effort to shut down REDjet and return to high fares and business as usual with no regard to the negative impact on travellers. Unlike us, they do not have to be profitable to stay in business.

In spite of their subsidised efforts, our passenger numbers have continued to rise because you, our patrons, enjoy our clean, comfortable and well maintained aircraft as well as our excellent service delivered at affordable ticket prices.

REDjet has no alternative but to suspend flights from 23:59pm on 16th March until further notice. All passengers booked on any REDjet flight from Saturday should contact the call centre 24 hours before scheduled departure time for an update on their flight status.

Affected passengers will be offered refunds or the option to travel with REDjet upon commencement of services.

Our Refund Procedure can take up to 3 weeks and is outlined below:

    Refund Procedure:

Complete a refund request posted on our website and email to service@flyredjet.com.

Alternatively submit your refund request with passenger names and booking reference numbers to: REDjet, P.O. Box 6072AP, Barbados.

Further announcements regarding services will be made on Monday 19th March. All tickets for future travel remain valid.

REDjet sincerely apologises for the disruption and distress this temporary cessation of flights will cause and looks forward to serving you in the future.

    END

Is it me or is this surely predatory tactics by the other airlines, and this sort of thing should be made illegal, or at the very least measures should be put in place to stop this kind of action that ends up leading to the demise of a competitor and the loss of many jobs, which ends up causing damage to the local economy!?
