The one thing that I have admired the most about NZ is that they come across as a far more “forward-thinking” and, in my opinon, are more “in tune” with the needs of their customer.
They are more willing to take substantial risks by rolling out a new type of seat, or they are simply more innovative when it comes to trying new ideas that can not only help increase their revenue, but more importantly something that really does improve the comfort of their customers when travelling.
And it seems to have paid off…seeing as they recently won “Best Premium Economy Class Airline” title at the 2011 World Airline Awards.
BA/QF are far more focused on protecting their “legacy” and their bottom line, so much so that the customer does in fact suffer.
If I was in the same situation as you have found yourself to be in, I would choose NZ over BA/QF in an instant…why, simply because they make it far more appealing to want to fly with them than what BA/QF do, but also because I would love to travel on their newly delivered “All-Black” 777-300 aircraft!
Hey Rob,
Fantastic shots as per usual; can’t believe the difference in the weather…cloudy and rainy almost all week, and then gorgeous sunshine on the Sunday by the looks of things.
My favourite shots are of the EY, EK and QR aircraft on the runway, they’re really awesome!
Also nice to see the new Air Transat livery over here; unfortunately they have recently announced that they are stopping their summer-seasonal LHR-YYZ route (usually done on an A310!), so we won’t be seeing/handling it at all this year onwards. Their flights to/from LGW remain unchanged, and I assume they are still planning on opearting to/from MAN too?
Of course you are just teasing us with only one shot of an EZY weren’t you…;) (you couldn’t resist it!)
I am assuming the AF 777 carried in the French rugby team then?
The first picture you have of it is amazing, and so is the variety of the other stuff, well done!:)
Wonderful!:)
There is a word I would like to call him, but I couldn’t possibly say it on here!
The man clearly has no shame; makes you sick really!
This might be the answer your looking for…
From businesstraveller.com:
Qantas and BA announce JSA revamp
Qantas has announced a restructuring of its Joint Services Agreement with BA, as part of a major new “International Strategy” for the airline.
The carrier says the changes will “consolidate Singapore’s position as the primary hub for the JSA relationship”, with BA swapping its B777 aircraft serving the London-Singapore-Sydney service for a larger B747 jumbo.
Qantas will continue to serve routes from both Melbourne and Sydney to London (via Singapore) with its A380 superjumbo, and also plans to open a new lounge at Changi.
The restructuring will also see the two carriers concentrate on operating JSA services from their respective hubs – BA will stop operating flight sectors between Bangkok and Sydney from early 2012, while Qantas will no longer operate sectors between London and Bangkok/Hong Kong. The move will also see BA increase the frequency of its London-Hong Kong service to 17 per week (from 14).

I am pretty sure that BA would not be dropping the LHR-BKK route as that would only leave Thai Airways International as the sole operator to/from LHR, and there is no way that they [BA] would allow another airline [TG, in this case!] to have a monopoly.
I think you’ll be fine, but I would always advise you to contact the airline directly if you do have any major concerns.
I met Sam Mendes off a flight last year, and as I was escorting him to his car I happen to mention that I was a fan of the Bond films and that I knew he was directing the new Bond film. We then proceeded to have a conversation in the lift about Bond films, in which he enquired what my favourite one was and what it was that I enjoyed most about them. Was tempted to ask him for a role, but thought better of it!:D

Indeed Bmused55, the agreement that IAG reached with Lufthansa was for them to buy the mainline division only, and that they (LH) had to sell BMI Regional and Bmibaby separately before the completion of the main sale, and if this was not achieved, the total sale price payable by IAG would have been reduced.
Could it be possible that FR might consider buying them at all?
They already serve and/or have bases at BHX, BRS, STN, EMA and they already fly the same aircraft type (737, ok granted WW use -300 & -500 series, and not -800 as FR do!).
Out of all of the LCC’s in the UK/Ireland, they are really the only other airline that would make a more sensible choice to think about buying WW, that is if the statement from LS is genuine!?
Rapping Flight Attendant
Has to be this one for me…it could only be Southwest Airlines!:D
Both photos of the Bond helicopters are su-PERB (pun intended!).;)
The airline claimed it halted sales following a threat of legal action by regional carrier Jet2. However, the CAA confirmed it had acted to prevent the sale of unlicensed holidays.
A CAA spokesman said: “CTT sought permission to trade with JetXtra.com. We have not yet approved that and until we do it cannot sell holidays. We would not allow a company to sell seats it does not have a licence for.” The spokesman confirmed: “This has nothing to do with Jet2.”
Thanks for posting this Sunjet, I too am a regular reader of TravelWeekly and had not read this particular article yet.
jetxtraman, can you provide an official update to confirm the situation?
I’m off to Boston in a few weeks for a concert…
Never mind about the plane, who are you going to see?:p
I wondered who is going to be operating your flights for you – presumably it isn’t going to be Jetstar, as suggested by your link?
According to Wikipedia (if you look on the page for Humberside Airport!), reference is made to the flights being operated by AlbaStar, a charter airline based at PMI, which operates 737-400’s.
Really sorry to hear that JetXtra.com have had to stop taking bookings for the time being. Whilst I know it’s a dog-eat-dog industry, threatning a start-up business with potential legal action simply because they think that people might get “confused” as to who they are booking with really is quite unnecessary.
I could possibly understand a bit more if Jet2.com were already offering flights from HUY, but they’re not.
Hope you get the result you deserve and can recommence bookings as soon as possible.
What will happen to those with BMI airmiles? will they get BA miles?
Do what I did…spend them, before BA even get the chance to get their hands on them!
My girlfriend & I are off to Dublin next week, and I chose to use the miles that I had, which wasn’t alot anyway, but still…
