The Cityjet flight came in from CDG, so maybe a charter to do with the rugby?

Indeed, might even have brought the team itself in…or perhaps a group of French fans all got together and chartered an aircraft so they could attend the match (might have worked out cheaper and ultimately faster than getting a coach and crossing the Channel!). Shame both will have left feeling rather disappointed.:D

This is not a scheduled service as far as I am aware; Eastern Airways are just the aircraft provider/operator selected by the company that is selling holidays/seats on the flights. Hence why you can only book it through them and not directly via Eastern.;)

If I live long enough to be around when an asteroid is on a collision course with the Earth, I’d just carry on as normal…no point in worrying/panicing about it…not a lot I can do to stop it. I’d just accept it, and enjoy life whilst it lasts!;)

CityJet do not operate any scheduled services to/from LTN as far as I am aware, unless it was being used as a sub-charter for another airline to replace an aircraft for a scheduled flight; who/where it was operating I don’t know?

Either that or it might have been a private charter…

Great photos and well done for standing out in the rain.:)

Lots of orange in this thread; someone will be pleased when he sees them…lol!

    (Sorry Rob, couldn’t resist!:D)

Ok, we seem to of got wires crossed…the text that was written in my OP was mine…so it was me that got the details wrong, not UA/CO.:o

Anyways, point I was trying to make was that it looks nice and I can’t wait to see it at LHR, if they use them during the summer months.

EDIT: Here is a slightly better “side-on” image…http://www.airliners.net/photo/United-Airlines/Boeing-747-422/1872040/L/

I don’t quite understand what your implying with you’re “Americans” thing Bmused…I’m English/British/non-American (delete as appropriate?!), but never mind?

Thanks for posting that picture CKTfan, now I come to think of it I remember I’ve seen that picture before, which is from 1994, so don’t know how I managed to get my dates mixed up…perhaps it’ll teach me to look at A.net before looking at Wikipedia for details on liveries.:)

Sorry Bmused that’s my fault, I should have stated that the source of the photo was from UA/CO…the text and getting the dates wrong is/was my fault, as I went by the info on Wikipedia, which doesn’t seem to have any mention of them using 747s during the 1990’s.:o

Of course, CO did use to operate B747’s back in the 1970-80’s, however, they were not in the livery which is seen/known today.

AF-KL & DL may bid for VS as well…

Seems as though the interest in VS is hotting up as I’ve read two articles in the last few days, both stating that Air France-KLM may look to combine with Delta in order to produce a bid to compete with Etihad’s interest in the carrier…which, if successful, might result in them [Virgin] joining the SkyTeam Alliance?

Personally, I’ve always thought that it would be better suited to join the Star Alliance, which would figure given that Singapore Airlines is already a member of Star and owns 49% of Virgin Atlantic…or perhaps, if the Etihad bid was successful, they could look to form a new alliance group which will help VS to compete more with the likes of BA and its IAG partners.

Either way though, it looks distinctly possible that VS will not remain as an independant carrier; anyone else have an opinion as to what they think might (or hope!) will happen.

Have you actually read the article black kettle?

I have it in front of me…

Palmair succumbs to Ryanair Effect – surely this headline is enough!?

…scrapping its tour operator Palmair this summer after being “swamped” by Ryanair…local agents criticise the airport authorities, saying it had been too ready to give favourable terms to Ryanair.

I read the same article Interflug, and it has caused quite a bit of anger by local travel agents who used to book their passengers with Palmair.

Real question here though is how much and to what extent the pressure was applied by FR on BOH?

As I understand it, FR are due to operate 29 routes this summer from BOH, and seeing as they’re a primary customer, I suspect that FR probably threatened BOH with the classic “withdrawal of all the routes”, which in the eyes of BOH management could have spelt disaster for the airport as a whole, so the demise of Palmair was no doubt seen as “the lesser of two evils”…such a shame really.

Firstly, may I congratulate you on your Ruby Wedding anniversary.:)

Most of what I would have recommended has already been mentioned, apart from the Twin Peaks, however, I suspect that it might be covered in the tour that you do.

That said though, the views over-looking the city from this location are amazing, and a great photo opportunity (see below; not my photo…taken from Wiki).

When are you going, and who are you flying with?

symon, I doubt there are people saying the same derogatory things about the likes of Virgin America and/or JetBlue because they are not considered to be “no-frills” carriers. Sure there will probably be bad press/media attention on them when things go wrong, however, I would say Ryanair are unique because unlike these other airlines they feed on the negative publicity they get…anything/anytime that they can get their name out into the press/media is seen as an opportunity.
