BA should not give in to bully tactics from crew…

And in return, BA shouldn’t bully their crew, who incidentally are a vital part of their operation, by changing the terms and conditions of their contracts and threatening to take away staff travel concessions for those that do go on strike!

I watched a film passenger 57 and noticed that L1011’s have lifts onboard and they make use of the underneath section of the aircraft.
Never really noticed this before.

Lifts are also present onboard the Boeing 747 that was used in another film, Executive Decision, which stars Kurt Russell, which is excellent.:)

I personally think there going to try and get the Falklands Contract off the MOD!

According to a work colleague, I’m led to believe that Air Seychelles have got the MOD Falklands contract since Globespan’s demise.

Seeing as this thread is on about 757s mainly, I thought I would ask this in here rather than start off a brand new thread…

Can anyone tell me what BA are doing with their fleet of 757s…I was on a bus going past their hangers near Hatton Cross and there are 3 or 4 of them lined up?

I know they are phasing them out, but what are they replacing them with (A319/20s I assume?!) and where are the 757s going?

Just two from me, both of which I have posted up on here before, but thought I would post them up again, especially the second one as I really like it with the tails of the other BA aircraft in the background.

Careful Number 9, you’ll be getting o job offer soon!:D

Well funny you should say that as I did apply for it when the ad went up, but have not heard back from anyone as yet so I assumed they (whoever it is that makes the decision) have chosen someone else…maybe thats a blessing in disguise, seeing as I now know how people really feel towards the moderators?

…the moderators here seem to get all bent out of shape if anything adverse is said about a certain airline or its past mirror image!

No offence Andy, but they only do it because there are people on here that seem to think that they have the right to say whatever they like, whenever and however they like, and whilst I accept that everyone is entitled to their opinion, there are occasions when some people do make some rather unfair and unjust comments about someone or something, so they feel they have to step-in to tow the line and remind them that this is a public forum and not somewhere that you can say anything that could potentially cause offence. Also, don’t forget, just because they moderate things on here, doesnt necessarily mean that they don’t agree with what you are saying on a personal level, its maybe just the way you convey it on here; they certainly don’t/shouldn’t use their moderation powers as a form of attack in a personal sense, and if anyone does feel that way then they should report him/her to the webmaster.:)

Back onto the topic of Varsity itself…

New Timetable effective 5 April
LNQ601 Depart Oxford 0800 Arrive Edinburgh 0930
LNQ610 Depart Edinburgh 1000 Arrive Newcastle 1030
LNQ610 Depart Newcastle 1045 Arrive Oxford 1200
LNQ611 Depart Oxford 1430 Arrive Newcastle 1545
LNQ611 Depart Newcastle 1600 Arrive Edinburgh 1630
LNQ602 Depart Edinburgh 1730 Arrive Oxford 1900

Isnt EDI-NCL/NCL-EDI a bit of an odd route to offer…they’re hardly going to be able to attract many business people (i.e the people more likely to buy the more expensive “flexible” fares!) by flying at the times mentioned above…or is this routing perhaps so that they can simply make more use of the aircraft throughout the day? If so, wouldnt it be a better idea to offer a direct EDI-Oxford return and then maybe fly Oxford-NCL-Oxford after that? Then, as and when they get the second aircraft, they can utilise it on the same routes, but offer it the other way round so that there is an early morning Oxford-NCL round trip, and an Oxford-EDI round trip later in the morning for those people that may not wish to travel as early as 0800?

Just in case you don’t understand what I am getting at, this is what I was thinking in timetable format…

AIRCRAFT 1:
LNQ601 Depart Oxford 0800 Arrive Edinburgh 0930
LNQ602 Depart Edinburgh 1000 Arrive Oxford 1130
LNQ603 Depart Oxford 1200 Arrive Newcastle 1315
LNQ604 Depart Newcastle 1345 Arrive Oxford 1500
LNQ605 Depart Oxford 1530 Arrive Edinburgh 1700
LNQ606 Depart Edinburgh 1730 Arrive Oxford 1900

AIRCRAFT 2 (as and when they get it?!):
LNQ607 Depart Oxford 0830 Arrive Newcastle 0915
LNQ608 Depart Newcastle 0945 Arrive Oxford 1100
LNQ609 Depart Oxford 1130 Arrive Edinburgh 1300
LNQ610 Depart Edinburgh 1330 Arrive Oxford 1500
LNQ611 Depart Oxford 1530 Arrive Newcastle 1645
LNQ612 Depart Newcastle 1715 Arrive Oxford 1830

BTW Cloud 9,I think your comparison is worse than mine!Who the hell wants 2 checked bags on regional flights?I don’t want one let alone two.

Is YYZ-YUL not considered a ‘regional’ flight, even though they are only an hours flight time away from each other?

I think you have misunderstood my reason for choosing to add the two checked-in bags…I simply chose this as an option in order to represent the same level of service that Westjet offers. I didnt/wasnt suggest that it is something that someone would actually do (again it comes down to personal choice!), but you have to compare like for like…and as my example shows, whilst Easyjet is still cheaper than Westjet (even when you do add on the charges for the two check-in bags!), you still miss out on alot of other things that you get included in the price of the Westjet fare…hope that makes sense?

Easyjet BRS-GLA out Tues 9/3 early am,back next day late pm £38.98 all in for 406 miles each way.

Westjet same dates out 14.30,back 14.15 Toronto-Montreal £112.07 for 313.45 miles each way!!!!

Thats hardly a fair comparison in my opinion seeing as you’ve chosen to compare two completely different types of routes with a rather large difference in mileage travelled.

Granted, Bristol is a city, however, I would not consider it be a “major” city if you are trying to compare it to the likes of Toronto and/or Montreal (apologises to all those who live/work in Bristol!).

I personally think London to Edinburgh would have been a far better comparison in terms of city choices, which when I did it I chose flying from Gatwick on the same dates as you have chosen in your example above…however I added on the extra fees that Easyjet charge, so I added two checked-in bags and Speedy Boarding in order to replicate the seat choice (even though with EZY this is still done as you board the aircraft and not online!)…and the total cost comes out at £113.98rtn.

Now, compared to Westjet for the same dates and as near same times to make it as fair as possible…they’re total price is CAN$288, which when converted into GBP’s is approx £171rtn, but you have to bear in mind the fact that you do not get the same amount of legroom, and you do not get the seatback TV and/or the free snacks and drinks when travelling with Easyjet, hence why Westjet’s fare is approx £57 more expensive!

Easyjet vs Westjet

We will not charge you for call centre bookings. (Easyjet do charge!)
We will not charge you to change or cancel your flight for 24 hours after you book. (Easyjet do charge!)
We will not overbook your flight.
We will not charge you for two checked bags. (Easyjet do charge!)
We will have the lowest change, cancel and pre-reserved seating fees in Canada.
We will accommodate you if your flight is delayed – even if it’s Mother Nature’s fault.
We will fly you in the youngest all-jet fleet in North America.
We will provide live seatback TV on our flights. (Easyjet don’t)
We will give you ample legroom and overhead bin space. (Seat pitch comparison…Easyjet = 29in; Westjet = 32-34in!)
We will publish our on-time, lost baggage and cancellation rates.
We will always let you know how we’re doing as a company.
We will offer free online seat selection 24 hours before departure. (Easyjet don’t!)
We will allow you to transfer your credit files to friends or family for free. (Easyjet don’t!)
We will give you free snacks and refreshments on your flight. (Easyjet don’t!)

The problem is, in the cut-throat European market no-one would pay the level of fares that WJ can command as the only real loco in a sparsely populated country.

I would gladly pay the fare that WJ charge because you actually get ‘value for money’ because you get a far better level of service.

I think what this proves (and has already been proven on many occasions already, but still fun to do none the less!) is that it really depends on who you are as a person in general (not just you black kettle!) as to which airline you travel with…if you simply fly to get from A to B, then price is going to be far more of an issue to you compared to the service you recieve, whereas if your someone like me (and I like my frills…lol!), then I take everything from the price, service and general reputation of the airline into account before choosing who I fly with.

(Have I just created the longest post in KP forum history for one the most simplest of answers?!…:o)
