‘Boris Island’ airport may replace Heathrow
The London mayor plans to shut down the city’s main airport and build a new four-runway hub in the Thames estuary
Why have they [The Times] decided to nick-name it ‘Boris Island’…this idea has been talked of for many years before Boris became Mayor!
Personally I am in favour…its about time that this country got a decent airport built that can be easily expanded and reduces the noise impact on local residents.
Ok, so there would have to be a slight compromise in the fact that it will take passengers longer to get into the centre of London, but that should not put people off too much, and 35 minutes is not that long anyway…hell, the Gatwick Express takes 30mins!
According to that report, Hong Kong’s island airport, which opened in 1998 with two runways, cost just £10 billion…yet a third runway at LHR will cost £13bn…go figure?
I also think that the revenue generated from sale of the land space at LHR could be used to part-fund the project!
Good set of pics there…always nice to see a series of images that follow each other.
Anyone notice that the a/c has not yet got the red and white ‘Emirates’ titles on the underbody?…
Hi Guys,
I searched google, and didn’t get a clear results, so any chance someone can tell me when the start date of the winter timetable is?
Thanks,
Sam
As far as I am aware, the winter/low season begins on the last sunday of October; in this case it will be the 26th!
Hope this helps:)

Sources say a proposal to the same effect was presented to the British Airways board last week.
Am I right in thinking that Virgin Atlantic were also mulling a possible takeover bid for the company as well at some point?
Will the repeats be any sharper though ?
No, just more of them, and worse of all, the same ones over and over again!:D:diablo:

You notice how there is NO photographic evidence to support this… :diablo:
Ah, but apparently he has all the receipts from every burger purchased…;)
Never mind an obsessive-compulsive disorder for his love of a Big Mac, I think he’s got one for keeping the receipts as well!

…the power of mass media and ill-informed speculation.
Indeed. I am at the point now where I feel that both the media/press and the ill-informed speculation that you speak of has unnecessarily kept this crisis going. As devastating as it is to know that a particular airline/tour operator has gone bust, resulting in many thousands of people stranded abroad or with future holidays now in tatters, I do think the media/press especially should be more focused on helping to restore confidence in the industry, instead I find its doing more harm than good!

If they did end up merging, would Etihad be entitled to join the Star Alliance?
Since it was a “Act of God” why should the airlines reputation be damaged?
Well certainly from a customers perspective, they will always seem to blame the airline whether it is responsible or not because they have been left inconvenienced by the cancellation, and no matter what the airline/staff do to help, they never seem satisfied with what is offered to them and always want something better or more than what the airline is prepared to offer in light of the situation. This makes some jobs like mine in ticketing/reservations even more difficult than it already is.
Also, I can imagine that some passengers will end-up choosing not to fly with that particular airline again, even though they cancelled the flight on the grounds of the weather and taking the safety of passengers into account.
