Well it sure does put a ‘new’ twist on the marketing perspective…certainly original and unique, but I do wonder if they’ll get any takers for it!
In the immediate term, they will be trying to ensure that the aircraft can be returned to lessors asap.
My guess is that right now, the leasing companies will be doing their very best to get the aircraft re-leased.
This might seem like a stupid thing to say (I apologise in advance if it is?!), but I am just wondering, if an airline has agreed a lease or just extended the lease on a particular aircraft, will they have had to of paid up-front for that…and if so, would they ever be able to get any money back from the lessor for the time remaining on the lease from the time they went into administration, or is a lease non-refunable?
As for the Paddy Power site, I wonder what is next – next member of the Royal Family to die? Tasteless in the extreme.
I totally agree, what confidence is that going to give an industry that is already in a state of turmoil…but I assume that Alitalia would be top of the list, seeing as they dont appear to have enough money for to buy any fuel!:)
I say we take our own private bets on the demise of PaddyPower…:D:diablo:
Many happy returns!:D
Very sad day indeed…:(
Not only do I feel sorry for all the people currently stranded abroad and with future holidays booked with the now defunct company, but I feel most sorry for the thousands of staff that worked for XL that turned up this morning to find out that they no longer had a job, or even worse, turned on the TV/radio and found out before even stepping out of the house to go to work!
The Chief Executive of XL, Phil Wyatt, held a press conference earlier, in which he said he is devastated by the collapse of the company (almost shedding tears!), and believes that the CAA now has a massive task on their hands in order to get people home.
One thing that bugs me though is why didn’t/don’t airlines that fall into the ‘vulnerable’ category when faced with situations like this begin preparing for these difficulties when it first came to light, i.e when the first airline went bust. I know it might not make economic sense, but even if they increased fares by £2 or so…at least it would help to gather a tempoary slush-fund to help them out when they most need it?
Another failure…?
And to make things even worse, it has led to the failure of Seguro Travel, a well-known and respected holiday company based right here in the UK…
According to The Times, there are 2,500 holidaymakers currently abroad and approximately 18,000 customers with forward bookings who are yet to travel.
Below is a copy of the statement that was on the company’s homepage, however, even now the website has been taken down altogether!
Seguro Travel Limited and its subsidiary Seguro Aviation Limited which trade under the style Seguro Holidays and Kent Escapes ceased trading on 10 September 2008.
Customers who have booked to travel by air from 10 September onwards should refer to the Civil Aviation Authority website (http://www.atol.org.uk) where further advice is given.
The directors of the company deeply regret the closure of the business which has been brought about by the failure of Futura Airlines last weekend.
The directors of Seguro have no involvement in the management of Futura Airlines.
The directors apologise to all of our customers.
Seeing as they were the only company to offer passenger flights to/from Kent International Airport (MSE), using the KentEscapes brand…I wonder what effect that this will have on the airport itself?
…and colour TV’s?:D:diablo:

Where are you getting the information from that “Manx Airlines” are flying in South Africa?
Well, I was rather intrigued by this myself, so I did a quick google search, and the first result shows that there does appear to be an airline that operates in South Africa using the Manx Airlines name, however, I am not sure its legitimate…
http://www.farecompare.com/flights/Manx_Airlines-JE/airline.html
Firstly it says it offers ‘cheap non-stop airline tickets from Jan Smuts – JNB’…well, ‘Jan Smuts’ was the name of the international airport between 1952 to 1994.
Also, it says it serves Jan Smuts (JNB) to Blackbushe (BBS)…
I certainly would like to see what market research proved this to be a viable route and with what a/c if it is a non-stop flight!…:p:D
The thing that particularily stood out to me was this:
Did You Know?
Manx Airlines flies over 21,018 seats worldwide per week.
The shortest flight on Manx Airlines is 312 miles from Johannesburg to Durban.
Manx Airlines has 113 flights each week from South Africa.
Manx Airlines has 31 flights each week from Durban, South Africa.
I think someone is having a joke!:D
It does just make me wonder if anyone actually uses this site to try and book anything…
To be honest I am not surprised by this news, as you have seen other carriers such as AA move from LGW to LHR. Not sure whether it is a cost related decision or just simply because LHR is bigger in size and also closer to the centre of London for business travellers coming over from the USA?
Lets just hope that we get CO 757’s operating out of LHR at some point!!!:D
EDIT: Just going to answer the above statement myself…
CO are due to launch a third daily service between Heathrow and New York (Newark) on Oct 26th, and they will be using a 757-200!

Some good quality images there Jaime – well done!
Particularly like that first Flybe one, but the first Icelandair one is great too.
Keep up the good work.
(I would have posted this on the other thread but it was locked before I had a chance)
Are you sure? The other thread has not been locked out, just GA doing his moderator thinggy of keeping things to the initial subject, that is all…:)
But can anyone recommend other decent reads to do with the industry?
Yes, have you tried these:

Out of all of these, I would have said the book about Go by Barbara Cassani was the one I enjoyed the most!
Wow! Some great stuff there tenthije. I love all the shots from LCY. Another good location for photography there is if you take about a 10-15min walk down a small pathway underneath the bridge to the left of the airport (you can’t walk over Connaught Bridge, assume this is for safety reasons!), then you can get some great shots of the aircraft parked up at the terminal and take-off shots if they are departing towards the West, or simply you can travel by Docklands Light Rail (DLR) to Royal Albert station, and its about a 2min walk from there!
I wondered why the 146 in the 2nd pic had “BACON” on the side!!!
Its was the nickname given to BA CONnect!!!:D:diablo:
Glad to see you back Rab, and what a cracking set of images to come back with!
My favourite has to be the Emirates 777 landing at GLA, but I also like the Titan 737!
Here’s to good health and keeping up the good work!:D
Wow Stu, some cracking stuff there…nice to see something different!
That first pic of all those NW a/c is interesting, do you know how many flights do they have to/from AMS and where do they serve? I know their hubs in the USA are MSP/DTW and SEA (I think?), and I assume they are operated as a code-share with KLM too?
Is the last one Madurodam?
Excuse my ignorance, but what is ‘Madurodam’, looks like a model village with a mock-up of AMS?
Either way, I want to visit, any ideas on how to get to it and how much it costs?
