Yet again, some excellent quality there Stu – second one is my favourite!
Don’t suppose you know if it is going to be a frequent visitor to Doncaster, or was this just an ad-hoc overnight stop?
With the increase in popularity of turboprop aircraft on short-haul domestic and European passenger flights due to the economic and environmental benefits, it seems that a cargo turboprop aircraft would be ideal for MK Airlines imo.
Btw, what is the story behind MK and their new trading name British Global, are they planning to re-brand themselves, or is it just simply a trading name, and they going to keep the MK Airlines brand?
Wow! Eye-catching livery or what…:D:cool:
Superb quality pics there Stu (hope you dont mind me calling you that!), well done and keep up the good work!
Yet more excellent stuff there wannabe pilot, my favorite has to be the one of the shadow of the ‘twotter’ on landing, that is really amazing.
Only slightly disappointing thing though is that there is no livery on the aircraft, compared to their usual decorative pattern, as shown in the pic below!
Forgive me for jumping the gun and asking about Hawaiian inter-island flights before you have even posted them up on here, but I am going to Hawaii this Friday (am so excited, cant wait!:D), I just want to know which airlines you flew on what routes and also what spotting is like at HNL if you did any?
Are you REALLY sure about that. The credit cards payments we accept at my company are FULLY paid for by the credit card company. We don’t receive part payment until the payee pays off the bill.
Ok, I am probably wrong then (apologises, :o!), as what you say would make more sense because then it is down to the credit card company to chase-up payment of the bill with their customer I suppose, rather than keeping the airline waiting for its payment!
we pay a percentage of each transaction per credit and debit card. Ours is approx. 3% Credit card. 1.4% Debit card. I should think that the amount of business MOL puts his banks way he would have negotiated that the card charges would be very small to him.
So…taking your figures purely as an example then…3% for a credit card transaction on a 2p flight = 0.0006p, and 0.00028p with a debit card at 1.4%, that would be quite a substantial profit margin with a charge of £4 per sector (£8 in total for both sectors!).
The point I am trying to make here is that even if MoL has managed to negotiate a very low charge with the banks/credit card companies (which I am sure he has), is it really necessary to rip-off passengers in such a way!
£8 is about the going rate for a credit card fee these days, and the reason the charge is so high is because the airlines do not recieve the money for the flight you purchased until you have paid off your credit card bill…and if you are paying the minimum amount off each month, airlines have to wait before receiving all the funds, so I think they have higher surcharges for using a credit card because they want to try and discourage people from using them.
Nevertheless, the one thing that does really bug me though is the surcharge applied for using a debit card, which in some cases is levied at half the price of a credit card fee. If you pay with a debit card, airlines should normally receive the full amount much quicker because it comes straight out of your bank account. It is absolute daylight robbery to charge such a high fee, especially when they receive all the money in one go and within a few days of you purchasing the ticket.
Most (if not all) airlines encourage people to book online by offering cheaper fares/discounts and e-ticketing to help speed up the process, but when faced with an additional charge like this, it is little wonder why people are put off from flying and choose alternative forms of transport such as trains, which are slowly but surely growing in popularity due to the reduced environmental impact they have compared to air travel.
Personally, I think that all airlines should be forced to set their charges at an agreed rate so that they make a marginal profit out it, and not be allowed to change them unless agreed by the regulatory authorities.
In respect of Ryanair, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I have flown with them once to DUB and back for the experience, and wont be using them again, like others have already said, I’d rather not fly than give any of my money to them.
Robbing b******s, whichever way you look at it!
WOW! This is my 1,000th post!:D
This is smart , airlines are bleeding money like crazy and this is probably the best time to buy if you have the money and BA definately does and with their size and managment i am sure they can restructure this buisness venture intoa profitable one .
After the re-structuring process, would they not look to merge it into Open Skies at all in order to increase the frequency of flights between Paris and New York, and possibly even use one of the aircraft to launch the Brussels route?
With the UK now heavily involved in ‘operations’ in Iraq and Afghanistan should we become ‘involved’ in Zimbabwe?
NO! ABSOLUTLEY NOT – haven’t we lost enough men and woman in other military action as it is, the last thing we need to do is send anybody into yet another country in order to try and ‘restore democracy’!
I appreciate that the people of Zimbabwe are suffering at the hands of this barbaric dictator, but I feel it is the responsibility of all of the other African countries to put as much pressure as possible on Mugabe to stand down.
Send Mugabe a new suit for a start, he might lighten up then.
How about an orange jumpsuit…this mad-man deserves to be locked up!

Wow! Fantasitc report there Planehunter…and some excellent photos!
KUL is one of those destinations I would love to visit (almost would of next month for a family holiday, but then we opted for Hawaii instead!). Anyways, I am thinking of waiting until MH have their Airbus A380’s in service as I am sure they will look to operate one on at least one of their London services, will be interesting to see what configuration they decide upon!
Yeah I agree steve, soon enough I think we will end up seeing….Virgin Worldwide!:D
One thing I would like to see would be an airline that offers a similar type of product that Virgin America offers but flying within the European market, as I am sure there would be quite a few people that would be willing pay to fly with them, instead of using other LCC’s like EasyJet or Ryanair.
And also, it would be really helpful if they offered a thru check-in facility for those people connecting from Virgin Atlantic flights that are then using another Virgin services to get to their final destination…for example, you could fly from LHR-JFK on VS, and then connect to a VX service to SFO, without having the hassle of collecting your baggage (apart from at customs!) and also re-checking in.
I’ve got a smoking related dilemma myself…
I have just moved into a house-share, and one of the other occupants is a smoker (and boy does he like to light ’em up!).
Although he is considerate enough to use only one designated room to smoke in (the conservatory!), I am somewhat concerned that I am going to be affected in someway through passive smoking as I am told that it is just as bad as smoking yourself!
Short of locking myself in my own room for all eternity, I cant think of a reasonable solution, does anyone have any suggestions?

That’s a brave move to be wanting to start-up when the industry is in such a mess!
Some good stuff there Tartan, although I must admit I never knew XL operated A330-200’s, I have only ever seen their 737’s/767’s at LGW!?
