Nowt wrong with position there mate, some great shots.
Agreed with others, Saudi DC-10 has to be my favourite!
You do not any specific qualifications to be able to do check-in as far as I am aware because they should provide training, but the I think that most employers would look for the following:
Good GCSE grades in Maths and English (preferably Grade A-C)
Previous experience in a customer-service role
Ability to cope well under pressure
Knowledge of a foreign language would probably be considered an advantage as well!
you know, we should stop this from happening, government should penalize the companies, we should stop using the service…
Quite agree…the money raised from any penalty/fine should go to support the workers that have just lost their jobs and their families!
Surely the loss of these and other jobs in similar cases is going to do more harm than good for the UK economy in the long run…?
well… we’re the ones who are responsible for moves like this… no reason to push the blame to the companies…
I have a sneeky suspision that any additional revenue made by yet another cost-cutting measure will simply be used to boost up the profit levels, rather than passing on any savings to the customer. Face it, the wages of 144 people is not going to have a huge impact on the overall cost per seat, thus not going to lower fares that much!
Surely it cannot be fair on the Polish workers too, the working conditions they must have to endure cannot be right…modern day slavery at its best, perhaps?
That is not at all suprising, seeing as Bruce Dickinson (lead singer for Iron Maiden!) is/was a Captain for AEU, so he probably managed to get a good deal on it…lol!:D
EDIT: Just read the article…it actually states that he will be piloting the a/c()…wow, how cool is that!
Dont want to send this thread into a general discussion, but I must confess I have never really heard any Iron Maiden music, am I missing something ‘special’ here…
Nice shots there.
VS’s newest livery does look nice. What routes do they use their Airbus fleet on? I am flying to LAX next July on my way to Hawaii, wondered if I might get it at all, or will I be on a B747?
Anyone interested in a 350D + 18-55mm + Lens Hood + 4 Batts / Charger + Batt grip get in touch
How much?
PM me if necessary with details.
Some nice shots there Grey, the CX Cargo is my favourite…good comparison of size against the biz-jet in the foreground!
That Binter Canarias 737 looks nice as well, but what was it doing at MAN, do they operate to/from the UK now?
Pitty she was up-front and not behind (in the cabin!)…:D:diablo:
This is great news!
Before now, I did not think much into ABZ as an airport (even though BAA/Ferrovial own it!), but this could have the potential to further increase services.
What I find really good though is that City Star have chosen to focus on routes that are specific to the oil industry. Not only is this a very lucrative industry indeed, it means that there will probably be a lot of wealthy people that need to to travel to specific destinations rather than having to connect via LGW/LHR or another regional hub (i.e MAN/EDI)
Good luck City Star, hope it all works out well!
As previously mentioned in another thread, judging by how badly ZOOM UK’s services are doing out of LGW presently, I do not see this being a success…but odd one-off flight might work ok through specific tour operators!:D
Well Wadda you know its a Canadian Flyjet lol
That’s a bit harsh, I think things would have to be slightly worse than they are for it to be put alongside Flyjet…;)
Thought I would continue this thread instead of starting another one…
Yet another interesting a/c coming into LGW today:
Boeing 747-400 A6-YAS inbound from AUH
It has a call sign of ‘Abu Dhabi One’, so must be carrying someone fairly important to be granted a call-sign like that!:D
I think music would be a good idea in airports as it would relax people better, but the biggest problem is that because people just pass through an airport, they would probably not be bothered by what was coming through the PA system; unless it was an announcement to say that their flight had been delayed/cancelled!
Then you also have the issue of trying to please everyone’s taste in music…not everyone enjoys ‘chillout/easy listening/instrumental’ music.
Here are some other ideas that I think airports should do in order to make passengers journeys less stressful…
1. Turn radiators off during periods of hot weather. Here at LGW, they are always switched on, which makes it very hot ‘n’ stuffy indeed.
2. Improve air-conditioning system to allow better air-flow around the building. Combined with the body-heat and sweaty smell of passengers, it is not very pleasent!
3. Encouraged use of self-service check-in kiosks to reduce queues at check-in. I know Northwest, Virgin Atlantic, Thomsonfly and Sterling all use the same kiosks here at LGW…perhaps more airlines should be encouraged to sign-up to use them!
4. More security staff to reduce queues.
Generally something along the lines of Joni Mitchell if I’m nice and relaxed or Rammstein if things arn’t going too well.
No Pink Floyd…Paul, I am disappointed!:D:diablo:
About time too…paper tickets are so like last century, and a benefit of e-tickets is that it is easier to check people in at the airport, thus reducing queues (hopefully!):D
That’s a new one on me..i’ve spoken to a friend at Qantas and he’s not heard anything either
Guess we will have to wait and see until the 1st September, only a few days away…
That shot of the under-side of the Flybe BAe 146 is really cool, as are the pics of the transit flights…
